With enough research you can port yourself. Ive never ported my own motor but the guy who did mine showed me step by step what he was doing and let me watch the whole thing. I will say its alot more time consuming than you would think. Taking all the messurments, making marks, getting everything just right. Then to actually do it right you need the right porting tool, tons of bits, then the special one just to do the transfers. Not to mention all the knowledge you need to come up with timings that will run good and work right with your port configuration.

Porting can be done at home, but I don't reccomend it. Anyone can go in and hack up the intake and make it bigger but it's more then that. The ports are set up from the factory to have a certian timing in which they open and close. By changing them without knowing what you are doing you could destroy the engine without ever getting a chance to run it. BY removing as little as 1-2mm you can make the cylinder usless. Blowdown times, ECV, exhaust width, which is expecially important becuase by increasing it too much you can cause the exhaust port to open under the piston when it is at TDC. Also things like port width need to be considered to get the max life out of your engine.
