Tires for my 2005 Kodiak 450......
Hey guys.... i am looking into getting tires for this bad boy, and i am wondering what my limits are, as for size, without getting spacers or lift kits and such..... i want to keep the bike stock form, and just want to change the rubber.
I have ITP aluminum wheels, just wondering what tires to get... ITP 589s, Mudlites... Highlifter Outlaws, Radials..... Maxxis Mudzillas... should i go with 25,26,27,28"s??
Just wondering whats out there... i am kind of leaning over towards the Highlifter Outlaws, or Highlifter Radials....

I too am just about ready to buy new wheels and tires. I've done a lot of homework and have decided to go with ITP C series type 6 wheels and 26" Dirtdevil tires. If you go up just one size to 26" you get the bigger tread on the tire and should have no problem with clearnce and you have plenty of stock power to turn them.

I highly recommend a set of radials on any IRS machine. They really help the handling, making the ride a lot more stable at speed and in turns. I would suggest a set of holeshot atr's if you do a lot of trail riding/snow/sand. Mine have been great for 2000 miles now on my prairie. If you ride a lot of deep mud (atr's aren't especially good in mud) I think carlisle makes a badlands radial it might be called, which is designed for muddier conditions.

Miserymachine, I have a set of 27 outlaws on c-series and can tell you that's too much for the kodiak. Yes it will turn them but you will suffer a huge power loss. They are really heavy, and handle like crap on anything but mud. If what you ride 90+% of the time is mud though, they are the tire to have. When I'm going somewhere really nasty, I throw them on the prairie and they are amazing. On hardpack they rattle your teeth out at slow speeds.

I think they are still pretty aggressive for anything but the nasty stuff, and they had some quality issues a while back. The atr's are an awesome all around tire, do a search for reviews. Maybe that carlisle is the right one, it also gets great reviews.

OK, I'm new to this forum and about to buy a Kodiak 450. Where can you buy the Outlaw radials? I'm having some trouble finding a website that sells them. Is anyone running a 26" Mud Lite on their Kodiak? I know a radial is supposed to be better than a bias ply tire but was thinking the Mud Lites might work well. I need an all around tire first and mud tire second.
