yfz complaints
#16
shocks- the only reason you hear about this problem is cuz the yufz was made for mx and a lot of ppl who are more casual riders buy it cuz they have heard about how great they are. the suspension is fine. ive heard that the 05' models are softer but only cuz they change the suspension settings off the showroom floor, not different suspension. i dont think its a problem.
seat- a little hard + thin but once again the yfz was made for mx where your butt isnt on the seat much. its not an issue to me. doesnt bother me.
battery- this only happens when the yfz is riden slow for a long time (once again, the yfz was made for mx ppl). if you run your lights when you ride that will help with that problem or so ive heard. the 05' models are "fixed" tho... i think
thumb throttle- maybe. i dont really know about that one. its an easy fix tho. i havent heard too many complaints about it.
i think the main problem is with ppl having "too much fun!"

If you're riding mx the stock shocks are fine. I do woods/hare scrambles riding, and after a couple of hours of fast riding over brutal terrain your arms and hands feel like Jell-O ~ so I got Elkas all around ~ exactly what the doctor ordered for woods riding (revalving might work also -- I don't know personally as I didn't try that route). As for the thumb throttle, do what a lot of us have done and replace the stock Yamaha throttle with a 400ex throttle with a TRX 90 lever. The pressure is still VERY heavy, but the bend of the lever/ergonomics are quite helpful.

well i just bought a yfz 450 and i LOVE it!!!!! before that i had a blaster so i thought it was time to move up. so i looked around and did alot of research and i ended up liking this bike the best so i went do to the dealership and bought it. i have rode it about 5 times now and i havent had that problem at all. i think the front shocks handle VERY.

There are (usually cheap) fixes for some of the little quirks to this quad if they really bother you. I have seen a few around here for sale because they are two fast though!
