Default please help!!2004 Grizzly problems

Hi all!!
My buddys fuel gage don't work.
when he fills up the quad, the fuel will show full for only a few seconds then the fuel gage starts flashing just like its empty.
Some times when turning on the key the gage will show the level in the tank, then after a few seconds the gage will flash like empty again.

The quad is off of warranty.............so we are hoping that someone can give me an idea of what could be wrong?????

Also.......
what color power wire is the ignition "keyed live"...........that the winch goes hooked to on the grizzly??
My buddys winch is hook to the ignition now but still works when the key is off??

The winch must be hooked into the red wire, this is hot all the time. Have him connect to the brown/blue wire or the brown wire. These only have 12 volts with the key on.
Check the ground side of the gas gauge, its the black wire on the 2 wire plug. Or there might be a problem with the connector itself, dirty, or partially connected, or water logged. If the wiring is good, then its probably the sender unit.

Looks like it disconnects by the top of the tank, just aft of the gas filler cap. Its a two wire connector.

The gas sensor is located under the gas tank shroud. In order to get to it you have to remove the side panels, the top of the front rack, the front hood panel, and then you can see the plastic rivets that hold the front of the gas tank shroud. there are a couple of bolts at the back of the gas tank shroud also. After you remove the gas tank shroud you can see a 2x2 metal sensor mounted to the actual gas tank. Use an volt meter and check to see if there is current there. That wire will lead to the electronic dash, it will be shorting out or one of the wires is broken.

good luck

I just installed a winch on my 05 grizz.

I ran my keyed switched wire to a harness by the relays and fueses. Release the fuse holder and pull it up...there is a pink wire that comes live when the key is on. I tried other switched wires and they actually started my quad when I hit the winch switch or made my gauges go nuts.

I hope this helps.

Also if you buy a non warn winch on EBAY like I did (2500lb) on the winch you have to connect the big black and red...well I like to have a rubber boot there. The kit does not come with any. So get a few old boots from spark plugs, cut them down and slide the over the wire before you screw them down. It looks real pro.
