Grizzly Ebay winch install and tips - custom front recovery point.
I just purchased a new winch for my 05 grizz spec ed. I purchased a 2500lb winch with the mini warn rocker switch. The warn winch plate does not match up, but i had it thrown in with my quad purchase. NO biggie. Drill new ones !
But here is what I did...the front of a grizz does not have a real good recovery point in the middle. The bumper will dent with a winch cable. So I took a chuck of aluminum and made a winch plate with tie down hooks.
I clamped the winch plate, my recovery plate, the fairlead plate all together and marked the winch holes. I drilled them out and mounted it all. The thing looks great and you can pull or be towed with any force and jerking.
Also if you buy a non warn winch on EBAY like I did (2500lb) on the winch you have to connect the big black and red...well I like to have a rubber boot there. The kit does not come with any. So get a few old boots from spark plugs, cut them down and slide the over the wire before you screw them down. It looks real pro.
The wire I used for my switched ignition wire is under the little fuse box under the seat. It is pink, I used an inline no cutting splice and all works like a champ. I mounted my solonoid under my seat and put rubber gromets through the plastic to stop any wire wear.
My rear recovery point is from cabelas for only 14 bucks, and 5 for the ball.
You can see all the pics right here....
