2005 Kodiak 450 Problem
#1
Hi I got my 2005 Kodiak 450 about 4 months ago. I have been riding it and plowing snow. Its a great machine. I just recently noticed especially when plowing that when I put it in gear say High or Reverse I start to gas it and then it goes into gear..If I gas hard after selecting gear it will kinda jump because it doesn't "lock" into gear untill I start gassing it(pushing the thottle) . Does anyone notice this on there kodiak. I think I noticed it when I first got it putting it in reverse but don't remember. Its just bugging me now thinking something is wrong. I only have about 35 hrs on it and maybe 60 miles. I had it into the dealer and they say they were going to adjust the linkage cuz sometimes that happens but now when I picked it up the service man said it was fine and normal. My question is when you put it in any gear does it immediatly lock into selected gear or only after giving it some gas..Like I said I notice it more plowing since I am contantly using drive and reverse. Thanks for any help.

I'm sure it's normal. It's like after changeing gears you need to ease it into gear by beeing lite on the gas until it engages. I'm sure you really notice it while plowing with all that back and forward shifting. I dont think you got nothing to worry about.

My 04 does that too. I was hoping that as I get more miles on it , it would loosen up.
Instead of reving the motor, to get it into gear, try doing the honda rock...after moving the shifter to the gear you want, release the brakes, and rock it foward and back, itll slip into gear, with out any clashing or crunching. Once the correct light comes on...youre ready to go. Or park on a slight incline while shifting, hold the brakes, shift, release the brakes, and let the incline move the quad enough to shift, it only takes an inch or two of movement to make it go into gear.
