valve ticking after cam install?
Even if the cam were 180 out it is really the decompression mechanism that you are talking about, it will work even if the cam is 180 out (and its right according to the cam, even though the cam is wrong). It wont work if the decompression cam inside the real cam is 180 out (from the cam).
The decompression mechanism pushes a tiny pin out of the cam to release some of the compression during starting, after the motor is started weights on the cam gear let the decomp mech push the pin back in and stay inside the cam until they are needed again. Sometimes you will hear a knock when shutting off the motor because of these wieghts swinging back and catching the decomp mech.
If you install the decomp mech 180 out (according to the cam) it will be engaged all the time, eventually wearing the pin off or breaking it altogether. The motor wont run too bad however you will have a lot of valve train noise. The internal pin cam that the decomp mech works on only 1/4 turn, if you have it 180 out the whole backside of it is round with no inverse lobe to let the pin push in to.

The valve specs are .006 and .008 for the HC stage 1 or 2. There will be more valve noise, but if it doesnt decrease when you readjust the lash and if its really really loud, I'd bet its the decompression mechanism. I had mine installed backwards, not a good thing and the bike ran bad.
