Default problem with carb of atv YFZ 450

given the application for which I am using the 450, I had to eliminate the airbox and apply an air filter right at the openning of the carburator. the engine is running very lean and I havent changed the settings of the carb until I can get some advice on how to set it up to run a bit more rich. thanks guys.

What kind of filter? Are you running an aftermarket pipe? If so, which one? What is your elevation?

All of these things will make a big difference in jetting.

What kind of filter do you have that will bolt directly to the carb? I didn't think that any would work due to the shock.

ESR and Ron Woods both make one that bolts directly to the carb.

Buck, are those two filter's any good? Compared to the adapter that makes the clamp on K and N usable? (Do you know which one I mean? I can't remember the brand, but I believe that it's the most common one. At least the most common that I see) That air tube from the carp to the box seems that it may be pretty restrictive, so I'm wondering if the filter bolting strait to the carb may be better. But I also ride in some mud/dirt sometimes, so would that pose a problem without the box blocking most of that?

A lot of guys run those two brands of intakes. They are probably more common in the dunes or at the MX track. I do see a couple of guys running them on trails here and there.

They are good products. I don't feel like they are fit for my riding style due to the amount of mud and dust I get into. But to each his own.

Go spend some time over at y f z central.com and you will see several threads on those two intakes. Very popular over there.
