05 Kodiak 450 top speed?
#11
The speedometer and the actual speed tend to vary with most quads. Almost every make and model has an "optimistic" speedometer. My Grizzly can top out at 69 downhill on its speedometer. With a GPS over the same stretch, it might high 65 max. The Arctic Cat I spoke of would peg its analog speedometer at 60 while that GPS was saying it was doing 52-53.
So thats something you might take in mind anytime you ride something. A little disheartening to find out its not as fast as you thought. At least it has been for me in the past.

My wife's 2005 Kodiak 450 tops out at 51 mph on pavement. It's pretty gutless for a mid-size 4x4 when it comes to speed, but seems to have plenty of torque for slower more technical trails.

Thats what I guess I was tried to express, Its weak (gutless) The part that gets me it its seems weak
even as the RPMs rise up. It maybe tight yet. I will give it a few hundred miles until I can say its broken in. I know snowmobiles will feel real tight when new, after a few hundred miles the clutches seat in and than the motor pulls real hard.

I noticed that on a say a 500 foot driveway its top speed is like 31 mph (seems slow to me). I normally ride a RM 250, Am I expecting to much out of the 450. It just dont seem like a 450 would be hurting on the power end. I couldnt imagine a 400 if its so underpowered. I would dread a steep incline on this machine. I rode a Polaris 250 two stroke years ago and it seemed to have better pick up than this 450.

If you normally ride a RM250 the Kodiak is going to feel slow.
I went from years of dirt bikes to quads and was really disappointed with the power of anything I rode.

True story there, if you're used to a dirt bike (ANY dirt bike) the Kodiak 450 is always going to feel gutless. Engine break in doesn't help, ... at least it didn't make any difference with ours.

It would be more fair to compare a Kodiak to a RM80, and even then the 80 would beat it.
I got off a KX250 and onto a 660 Grizzly, what a shock. But the pace is way more relaxing.
The fun factor is different. Clearing a 70 foot double on a motocross bike is more satisfying than grinding through a mudhole on a 600 pound water buffalo (quad).

Kodiak 450 2005 51 mph, and remember after the break in period there is a screw on the handle bars for a throttle which will give you a little more speed, it in the owners manual, it will tell ya
