I just bought a 2001 kodiak 2wd about a week ago and I was wandering what the top speed is. I know its got a lot more power than my polaris 325 had. Also has anyone had a problem with the stability. The first day I worked with it I went through a ditch ive been through for four years and bam.. upside down she went. It just bent the rear rack a little. But it feels very unstable compared to other atvs ive owned. Other than that I love it so far.

 

Don't forget your polaris is like 4 inches wider also.. that helps stability a lot. But like you said, your IRS is the real reason

You can switch Kodiaks from 2wd to 4wd but they do not just come in a 2wd model. Atleast I knew nothing about it.

 

Actually they do come in a 2WD vesion as well. I don't know what the price difference is.

I can't say how the stability of the Kodiak compares to other atv's since the only other atv I have ever been on has been a 3-wheeler. But just as others have already posted, just get familiar with it and you will soon be able to overcome any unstability that you may encounter. One of the problems is those @#&%ing stock tires they put on there. I have noticed that they tend to buckle under a tad, which makes it a little unstable.
