Why does the biggest baddest new Yamaha need wider axles and A-arms?
#1
Good grief, We all knew the Raptor was too narrow. And now, sure enough, people are already talking about wider A-arms and axles. Hey, at 42" wide and all that horsepower of course it's too narrow. Hey you know what you get with custom A-arms, wide axles and extended swingarms? a quad that handles great that's what. WHY CAN'T the Japanese manufacturers build them big to begin with???? Polaris handle soo much better, but they have a weight problem they just don't seem to care about. All these so called new designs are still 20 years behind dirt bikes. Real innovation is needed throughout the ATV industry.

no matter how wide it is. There is always wider.
250r wider, banshee wider, 400ex wider just like pipes, bumpers, handle bars,nerfs,tires,a-arms,shocks, factory will never be good enough.
the only way is companys like alba selling complete bult bikes with aftermarket parts.

Why buy an overpriced, overweight, non reverse having, designed for duning, one color having quad when I live in mountains? Like they say if you got the money they got what you need. Why does graydon proline sell DS A-arms, or Ron Woods sell A rev box, Why does the 400Ex need upgraded shocks or wider A-arms, WHY ASK WHY? I will modify only to have a Unique Quad, and to modify to Race XC. Factory Quads are never built to Race specifications and never will be just something we all need to accept

Hey YaMaRaptor, I think that is a sad response.
I got NO problem with customizing and specializing
your ride, but when the latest hotest thing needs
MAJOR modifications to get with the program and you are defending it... well.. that is a snow job
that the manufacturers have pushed off onto the consumers. Throw in a little after-market conspiracy just for fun.
30 years ago I was a teenage motorcycle mechanic at Fred's Desert Cycle in Tucson. We sold and raced Maico, CZ, Penton (KTM),Sachs, Hodaka and a few other strange small brands. We
beat the pants off the Japanese bikes. The Japanese bikes were
crap, all of them. They were heavy, handled like
garbage, terrible suspension, yet die-hard Yamaha
and Suzuki fans modified and modified and raced and lost to the small European motocrossers with
less power. Remember Yamaha DT-1's with GYT kits? Suzuki Savages? Then they got in the game. They developed teams and superlight titanium "works"
bikes and the production models got the trickle down engineering and designs that made them winners. Had it not been for the competition, in this case a handful of small European manufacturers, the Japanese would have
NEVER developed the incredible super motocross bikes we take for granted today. Competition is the only way these ATVs are going to get better.
Competition in the marketplace as well as the racetrack. I hope Cannondale and Bombardier can do for ATVs what Husqvarna, CZ and Maico did for moto-x.
If you want to double the cost of your ride to get that last 5%, knock yourself out. But when you gotta double the cost of your ride to get the last 50%, that's just unfinished business, and we as consumers have to demand more for our money.

Why do 400ex's need a-arms and axles? Why do 250Rs need a-arms and axles? Why do Yamaha Banshee's need A-arms and axles?
Why? MORE TRAVEL NUMB-SKULL!
If you are trying to bash, you are doing a poor job, any quad I have owned I have opted for longer a-arms and wider axles to improve handling and suspension travel.
You bring up a stupid point.

You should try cleaning some of that sand out of your ears GlamisBoy, it has obviously affected your thought processes...and your manners. If you want to get technical, wider axles do nothing for wheel travel, the wider track increases stability, especially in cornering, which a 42" wide(narrow) ATV is not going to do as well as a 48" wide ATV.
Yes, there is an increase in wheel travel with longer front A-arms but the stability is what is sought after, not the slight increase in wheel travel. YOU MISSED THE POINT!! Why is the latest
production sport ATV so technically lacking that it needs ALL THESE MODIFICATIONS BEFORE ANYBODY EVEN HAS ONE!!! Although a Yamaha Motocrosser has a myriad of aftermarket accessories and modifications available, they do just fine-right out of the box. The Raptor's chassis is obviously too small for the power it produces. This may make a great thrill ride in the dealers parking lot, but everyone who owns one will eventually want the wider stance & stability of the aftermarket axles and A-arms, which it should have come with in the first place. If you and thousands of others are putting wider axles and A-arms on these rigs then the manufacturers should start making them that way in the first place. What? You like throwing away half of what you just paid for?
This is supposed to be an adult forum. If you don't have the intelligence or demeanor to discuss appropriate topics pertaining to ATVs then I suggest you try the "chat rooms" where
conduct such as yours is considered acceptable.

What makes you guys think it needs to be wider...
I just went for my first ride on mine last week end. And its perfect. The Raptor in my opinion does not need to be any wider or longer... It looks tall, but it cuts corners no probs...
