that gets rid of sputtering?
i think not...

more than likely a jettng issue... if its lean... you will find it popping alot... mine sputters now because its getting warmer and i havent gone back to my summer jetting yet.
dont listen to this yahoo he doesnt know what hes talking about. i took mine to a yamaha dealer and the did everything they could think of and on day i was in a atv forum and someone suggested to drive with the lights on and i havent had any problems since.yamaha made it so running with your lights on keeps the electrical system charged thats why when your fan kicks on it doesnt drain your battery.
No offense but my 450 never sputters with the lights off. Sputtering in a jetting issue. Bump up your jets and the sputtering will stop and your bike will run much better.

Doing the Hokie-Pokie just before riding will keep you Yamaha from sputtering...you remember?...you put you left foot in...

if it starts to cause you any problems on the trail after the Hokie-Pokie ritual
lay flat on your stomach and pound your fists against the ground in opposition to you kicking feet screaming
WHY WHY did I listen to those monkeys...

Thanks for the input. I don't think it is a headlight issue....I always run mine with headlights on. I think you guys are right about it being a jetting issue.

Thanks

even that is odd tho... you have no mods that would effect jetting...
maybe your carb needs to be cleaned out... tried that?

Even though he is stock the jetting is still lean from the factory plus he is near sea level which makes it more of an issue. Least now you have a starting point. Try different jets if that doesnt work clean out the carb.
