I think if they got the handling dialed in on this bike it will be a serious trail machine. It looks wider. Can anyone confirm the width and height compare to an 05?

I don't own a raptor {have nothing against them }, but you don't have to look far on this forum, and other forums to see tranny reliability issues on early raptors. Nothing wrong with seeing how well this new raptor tranny holds up, before forking over 7k for one.

It is essentially the same engine, but casted differently. The gear ratios are the same as current models. It's an oversize bore (686), but EFI two into one. Still SOHC, a couple pounds lighter and with a much better geometry. If you go to www.yamaha-motor.com, you can pull up a model comparison page to compare it to other Yamaha ATV specs, such as the original 660. The initial test ride reports indicate it is very torquey and pulls harder than the stock 660 but not overly so. The handling is said to be improved significantly. Depending on the type of EFI, it could turn out to be a very tuneable and fast rappie. I guess we'll see.

I have an 01 Raptor, no problems with the tranny. In fact there are three 01 raptors in my family - no tranny trouble with any of them.
seems like some do, some dont. I havent seen any logic to it.

My first thought was "How far can you Punch out this Motor", now the EFI has come to affect, I just might get one but not real soon. Just purchased me a new DR650SE to cruise around....

whole new frame, lower, wider, better handling, longer shock travel on the rear, looks like new engine design from the outside...same motor bored 2mm, 4 valves now with EFI
