my cousins 660 raptor is eating up oil quick is there a problem

yea we got that problem w/ an old lt 230 but since no one really rides it we dont take the time to rebuild it we just put thicker oil in it like it takes 10w-40 we just put in regular 40 wieght that way it wont leak in to the cylinders as much so thats just the easy way out
