How to clean a carb?
#1
Can anyone take me through the basic of how to clean a carberator on a 99 Wolverine?
Is is safe to shoot compressed air in the line that comes from the tank?
We have drained the bowl a few times in an attempt to drain out any offending gunk.
For a little background, the bike has been getting hard to start lately then very recently started running poorly and then just quit and
won't start. No bangs or anything when it shut off.
It has gas, the bowl fill quickly. Has spark, maybe a weak spart? can't tell. not sure what to expect.
The bike is used regularly so the gas is not old. The gas went in 3 bikes and the others had no problems.
When the bike was new it ran poorly a few times and the dealer cleaned the carb under warrentee.

Heres a couple of articles on carb cleaning.
The best thing you can do, is try to prevent it from happening again. You can add an inline fuel filter, and turn the gas to off, when the motor isnt running. Its the constant evaporation and refilling of the float bowl, which condenses and leaves deposits in the small pasageways of the carb. The first jet to plug, is the pilot jet, which controls the mixture of the idle circuit. Its the first to plug because its the smallest diameter. It shows up as an idle problem first, and then eventuallt it wont idle at all, unless the choke is on.
