I have 27' tires on my 04 GRIZ and on a lake last winter with hmf exhaust ( with Quiet Core in ) K&N air filter, and dyno jet kit , going against a stock 05 Rincon , Well my freind took off before me 10 to 12 quad lenghts head start. We ran probably 4 mi. wide open I caught him oh maybe 2.5 or 3 mi. into the run and passed him. and kept pulling, when we stopped he said his GPS said he was going 59 mph my speedo on the griz said 61 mph. I take it to be accurrate with the 27' tires on. Dirtwheels have the griz speedo reading at +8 mph over actual speed the 27' tire bring the speedo to a more accurrate reading. You may get more speed than I got, that day there was a thin layer of granualar snow on the ice, and I weigh 280. I do seriously doubt a stock Griz with an accurrate speed of 70 mph. if so we would be keeping up with the BF 750 s and KING QUADS .Although the Griz is a great quad a lot of torque and I take it to be a sporty ute, still happy with my GRIZ buying decision. The only true way you will know is radar gun or GPS.

I also have an 04 Grizzly with 27" ITP 589's and here is what I've found:
With the stock tires and when it was new, the speedometer read about 67 mph. After I got water and mud in the transmission a couple of times, the speedometer would only read 63 - 64. (I'm assuming the belt had some wear from the mud and water)With stock tires my GPS would read about 58 mph. With the 27" tires my speedometer would read about 57 - 58 mph top speed. With the 27" tires my GPS would read about 57 mph (much closer to the speedometer reading.

My conclusion is that putting bigger tires on your ATV does not cause much of a difference in top end speed. (It does reduce your low end torque though.) The speedometer reads at a slower speed, but it is only because of the difference in the diameter of the tires. (It actually causes the speedometer to be more accurate with the Grizzly.) Let me know if anyone agrees or disagrees with what I've found...

it was tested that the thinner your tires, the higher the top speed

I'm not saying you don't lose a little bit of top end speed, but it's not as much as the speedometer says. After I changed my tires from stock to 27"ers my speedometer said I lost about 6-7 mph but the GPS said I only lost about 1-2 mph. The speedometer is going to be off more because of the tire diameter. The GPS will always be accurate if you have a good signal.
