warrior clutch help
#1
we got the new clutch for my dads warrior and were installing it and the pressure plate broke... so we have ordered a new one and got it all back together again and made sure this time to not tighten the bolts too much due to cracking the pressure plate ( the dealer told us that even at the correct torque 5.8-6 they have cracked pressure plates and stripped the bolts, so this time we did not tighten them to 5.8... it felt as hard as it did when the plate cracked so there much less than 5.8 now and the clutch won't hold, with the clutch in the bike wants to go, just like it was doing b4 this replacement. the clutch lever is pretty stiff.
WIll it not grab b/c there not tight enough or what? i think it should b/c its a new clutch and the pads are a little bit thicker, but the weirdest thing is the old plates were only about halfway gone. the cables were fully adjusted... do people index the clutch puller on the bottom to adjust it further? it seems possible, similar to adjusting a kick start pedal.

I don't know if this will help you any, but..... The warrior is one of the quads that suffered from to few plates in the basket. There is enough room for one more steel plate and one more friction plate. It tightens the thing down much better and works ten times better. As far as the pressure plate breaking.... The 5.8 or 5.9 ft lbs of torque is correct. Make sure you are using a good torque wrench. 5.8 is not very much torque trust me. But you need at least that much for the clutch to engage properly. Also, consider getting an aftermarket pressure plate and maybe some stainless steel spring bolts (make sure they are the same thread and length, .030 of an inch can be a lot in this situation). As much as I love Yamaha, some of the internal parts are weak and junk. Check that out and best of luck to ya.
