Default What sand tires for 700r?

I just got my first sport quad, a 700R. I want to get some sand tires. Looking at haulers but I am unsure if I should get 8 or 10 paddle and 20" or 22" diameter. Local shop recommends 10 paddle 22's but when I said I don't plan on piping it right away they said maybe 8 paddle 20s would be better. What do you think?

Any advantage to a 10" diameter rim over 8"?

I have a 700 as well, and ran some new Skat Trak Hauler 20-10-10 8 paddles last weekend. They get more than enough bite. They lift the front wheels up all the time! There is a constant 4 ft tall and 12ft long roost when cruising, more if on the gas hard. I cant imagine having 10 paddles or taller haulers.

if this is your first atv i would suggest some sand skate II's or another V paddle design. it will make it alot easier to turn and move around and still provide plenty of grab when running 2-3lbs of air in them. then once you get comfortable with the bike upgrade to some haulers.

do you ride down at Kelloge beach/Fort dick?

I run ITP Sandstars and really like them. Just wish I could shave off a couple pounds on each tire. Even when we get the hp. up to about 70 I am still going to stick with a v-paddle design. I will stick with a hauler paddle type tire on my turbo DS drag bike though. No matter what type of sand tire you buy stick with a 8 paddle.

For all around duning I would stick with a 10 inch. If you are going to be mostly dragracing a smaller wheel will give you more side wall for more tire spool up.

I rode one with 20-11-9 9 paddle Extremes...it hooked up well, they were a bead to bead buff also.

22" Haulers, most of the people that I ride with prefer 22's for the ground clearance, doesn't drag as much on tree shots.

Mark,
10 paddles are overkill and will slow you down on the top end. I have both a set of 8 paddle and 9 paddle 22" extremes on both of my DS's and I prefer the 8 paddle. You will be happier with the 22's over the 20's. Better floatation and less time getting stuck with the 22's. Be sure to drop a gear on your front counter sprocket to compensate for the larger diamater.

Right on the mark!!!! No front sprocket available as of yet, I went with a YFZ 40T rear, sweet gearing
