what oil are you running. For a short while i ran regular motor oil but I soon learned better. Try switching over to Amsol full Synthetic. ATVs run a wet clutch which uses the regular motor oil for tranny lubrication, unlike a car transmission. Make sure you use oil that is designed for a wet clutch. Since I switched to amsol synthetic motor oil I noticed continued shifting quality as it wears its way in. Dont use regular motor oil in a wet clutch, it wont hurt your top end but it wont help your clutch components or your smoothness of shifting. Id give that a try. worked for me

I just bought the Wolverine, but I think the previous owner was running YamaLube.
Would you recommend doing an oil change and switching to Amsol full Synthetic instead?
How often are you changing the oil running Amsol full Synthetic?

Are using Amsoil oil filters also?
After you mention Amsoil I did some research on it, seems to get very goood comments from users. I thnk I'll give it a try.

no I was just using the regular oil filters i bought off ebay. My oil changes vary on how much I use my quad. they used to be more often now they are less because i dont get nearly as much riding done. I probably should change more but at least I use good oil. Im sure the yamalube was set up for wet clutches but I know ive been very happy with the amsol. If they are the same price and its not hard to find then yeah why not try it out see if it makes a difference.

Congrats on getting the Wolverine, I'm sure you'll be happy with it. I use Valvoline ATV oil and the factory oil filters on mine (I get them for free), but Amsoil synthetic is an excellent choice as well.

wolvydude, nice looking wolverine. You went with the same principle as I did on the Wolverine. Sport 4x4 not sport ute. I love mine. I dont have any pics of it up right now and im away at college but ill be putting some up on wednesday or thursday after i get my trailtech dash installed. Nice looking rims. thats my weak point. I wish I had some more cash for rims. What i think ill end up doing is saving up for another year or so and getting aftermarket rims with 22inch holeshots or razrs all the way around and have two sets of tires. got mine new in 2001 and wouldnt trade it for anything.

CTATV, my thoughts exactly: sport 4x4. My Wolverine has never done a days work and probably never will. I do take it hunting fairly often but that's about it. I like to play in the mud and rocks so 4wd was a must, but I didn't want some overweight, poor-handling ute. For me the Wolverine is the perfect quad. Looking forward to pics of your ride...
