it also depends on what efi atv you are buying polaris has had efi out for a few years with hardly any problems, but yamaha, suzuki, ext. are just coming out with it you should definatly hold off a little and stick with carb

Well since it's only availible on 3 sport quads and the cannondale line I really dont think a fair comparison can be made, especially since 2 of those machines need aftermarket efi units at substantial cost. Since you cant get a carb model raptor 700 I dont see where a good comparison could be made.

Utility quads can be compared well, and the efi has turned out to be better in just about every respect. Whether this is true for sport quads, or highly modified sport quads, we've yet to see.

the raptor 700 and quadracer dont need an after market efi units, they have smart fuel injection that automaticly addjusts to all the minor hopups like a pipe, airfilter,or removing the airbox lid.its only if you do serious modification that u need the efi reworked

if were talking about 4x4 utilities for mud bogging and riding in river beds ext. i really dont know how efi will hold up on a utility if it gets fully submegged in water what if the computer chip gets wet? but if were talking about sport atv motocross or that style racing there is probablt no chance of water getting 2 it so efi would be superior

You dont seem to understand what I posted. Only 3 sport atvs besides the cannondales have availible EFI, only one comes with it from the factory, the 700. The ds650 and raptor 660 both have aftermarket units availible. The damn ltr isnt out yet, so it doesnt count because no one can say how the efi works. Getting back to my original point, there hasnt been a lot of time for efi sport quads to be tested out and compared, and it will be some time before high performance applications will have efi working so its still too early to say.

Sorry, but you are misinformed. Out of all the 700R owners that I have conversed with on the web I have only seen one claim that he was running and after market air filter and pipe without an aftermarket controller and didn't think he was running lean. Even the better Yamaha service depts have a remapping service for the addition of GYT-R pipes and filters. The 700R does not have an 02 sensor it measures alltitude air temp and air density as well as speed. It can compensate for small changes but with the addition of high flow filter and free flowing exhaust sytems the bike will run lean,in some cases very lean. My 700 was to lean with just the removal of the air box lid and the replacment of the stock baffle with a Phoenix systems free flowing spark arrestor. The EFI system employed on the 700R is pretty simple & staright forward, I would not refer to it as "smart" as it is not self learning.

As far as which is better, I'll take EFI over a carb any day.
