Also, a quad in the back will get better gas mileage than a quad on a trailer behind you. You also don't have to worry about parking or getting somewhere hard to back the trailer up. However, if you have 2 bikes then the trailer is the only way. But, it still is more beneficial to have 1 in the bed and 1 on the trailer for better mpg. Gas will go back up!

 

I have a 2000 Z71 4x4 with a 3" body lift, and a Grizzly. I just went to Home Depot and got some treated 2x8's and the kit to make ramps. They work perfect for me, they are not even at a steep angle.

 

Maybe the Chevies are a bit more finicky, but I only lose max .5 mpg on my pickup when trailering about 600lbs total plus about 500 lbs of quad and gear in the bed under what it runs unladen. Of course, a 3/4 4x4 running 4.10's sucks the go juice even rolling downhill in a tailwind....

 

You should be fine with the ramps then. I had 6 footers at one point (a tri-fold) but they were too steep on my 4x4 Dakota with 31" tires. Scared the crap outta me. I returned them and got 7 footers instead.

Scooter you are right about that trailer, at 78 inches, I don't think the V would fit with the back gate down. I'm going to have to get a bigger trailer when I get that mini in the spring. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

I ordered the 7 footers too, I dont want it very steep, especially in the winter.

 

i love the trailers. mine is a 5x8 with gate. can put 2 across if necessary...in a pinch. light weight, much safer, and keeps mud and mess out of my tacoma. i keep a tarp on the truck so gear and everything stays covered and dry. after a long day of riding... drive off the trail directly up gate and done !! no kicked ramps backing off ,no holes in tailgate. plus ..you can pressure wash quad while ON the trailer. my opinion [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif[/img]

 

There is no doubt there are uses for both, I am going to try presure washing my grizzly while on the back of my truck someday this week, I think it can be done will let you know.

 

It isn't very fun washing the Grizzly in the back of a truck, I have tried different methods and somehow I still get soaked. The best way I have found is roll the Grizzly down the ramps just when the tires touch the ground and put it in park and start washing, then when it is time to wash underneath just stand on the back rack and slowly bring it back and let it rest on the rack, works like a charm....

 

i use a trailer for my grizz and its great. my friend has a ramp for his kodiak and its a huge pain in the ***... so instead of him using it he makes me pick him up and i trailer his and my quad (yes, i kno, im so kind). the grizz is a big machine and a pain in the @$$ to put into the bed of ur truck kuz theres so little room and u have to aim for it real good. with a trailer u just roll on in and put sum tie downs on it and ur good to go. plus it doesnt leave a big mess in ur truck. by the way... nice grizz dennykyser.

 

I use both trailer and ramps. I load the quads on the trailer sideways by setting the ramps on the side rails and running the quads over top of them. It works great! With this method the bike is less subject to movement on quick stops.

I long for the days when I only had to haul our Grizz in the bed of our truck. It is much more portable and easier to drive. Plus for tie down on the truck I fabricated a Louisiana Guard Dog style frame lock that attaches the Quad to the receiver hitch. I can load it and lock it in 5 minutes.
