OK. HERE'S THE DEAL - NOTICE THE CAPS - APPARENTLY I NEED TO SHOUT TO GET THIS THRU A THICK SKULL.

FOR THE LAST TIME!! NOT ONCE DID I MENTION MX RACING. YOU MENTIONED GOING FAST - THAT IS, BELIEVE IT OR NOT - WHAT RACING IS ABOUT.

XC RACING = CROSS COUNTRY = FAST PACED TRAIL RACING THRU RUGGED, UNGROOMED, NATURAL TERRAIN...

WHEN PRESENTED WITH THE FACTS, YOU ALL DO THE SAME ROUTINE. "WELL I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT RACING". LET ME THEN ASK YOU A QUESTION....

WHY THE HELL DO YOU BRING UP BEING "FASTEST" & "BEATING" OTHER BIKES IF YOU COULD CARE LESS ABOUT RACING???? MAYBE YOU SHOULD TRY IT SOMETIME, THEN YOU WOULD KNOW WHAT THE REST OF US KNOW.

HELLO? IS ANYONE IN THERE???

SHEESH.............. YOU PEOPLE KILL ME!!!

---------
As far as the SC500 - Yeah, it's only a little slower -- in a straight line. Get it in the trail, on the sand, or in any race except drag and it's A LOT slower and less fun to ride at a faster than average pace. I could go on and on about chassis design & such, but I won't...

Please, let this topic die. I will if you will... DEAL??

Cheezy insult ignored.

First off, pour enough money into any machine and it can be competitive.

2 units? Is this your fabled Polaris Super Quad that is being "mass produced"?

My point was, I am seeing the "fantasy one off custom machines" I was talking about out there. I am not seeing your "produced in quantity" Polaris machines. I was in no way saying they don't exist. I was simply questioning your line of reasoning behind calling my example "fantasy" and your example "produced in quantity".

Wow..extremely humorous thread here.

I own a 400L and a Raptor

The 400L Polaris motor is unmatched in power production. The potential is incredible as to what you could do to the machine to maximize the HP. (Weight reduction..etc).

As for whoever said Yamaha made false claims?? Read the shootouts - The Raptor wins in drags against the Banshee and DS , and in MX, and in Handling, and in Jumping, and in Woods, And in DESERT against the DS..lol. Yamahas claims have been proven...just read the info...

My 2 cents..

Yep, quite humorous....

Just for the record, I don't dispute the power capabilities of the 400L. I do however question the sanity of comparing it OVERALL to a Raptor, 400EX, Banshee, or 250R as a high performance machine. As a go fast in a straight line, easy trailrider, it's a fine machine - as a racer, it leaves a lot to be desired.

When i went to Cockrington,Pa for the worlds largest atv poker run out of 8000 quads there I could not beleive that just about half of them were polaris scramblers 400 and 500s.They were everywhere so I guess theres a pretty good demand for them.As for compaing them to a raptor or a 400ex I dont think so.I give 86atc250r credit for trying to make some sense of this subject anyways. The polaris is stricktly a trail machine and thats about all it will ever be.Give us a break guys and stop trying to compare these machine cause we all no the raptor or 400ex will stomp all over your oversized Polaris quads.Enough said now lets end this subject.

It took me all of 2 minutes of searching to give you 2 real examples. All I have from you is that you "say" you have seen something, well I just showed you what I was talking about. Like I said, I could call and buy one right now.

A sporty 4 wheel drive quad is perfect for the type of terrain you find in PA thats probably why there were so many Scamblers there. I was on a poker run last year in PA and there was loads of rocks, mud and stream crossings so the Polaris 500 would be a good choice . About 2 years ago Dirt wheels did a shootout between the 400ex, the Banshee and the Polaris 400 Sport. The 400ex won the overall shootout but the Banshee was fastest in the drag with the 400ex second and the Polaris 400 third. I would never consider a Polaris because they are too heavy, I dont like the full floorboards, and i want a clutch. BUT if i was less into sport riding then the Scambler 500 would be cool.

86atc250r now you know how I felt when I started this forum topic, I simply compared the two in "POWER" and for some reason everybody somehow thought I said the scrambler 400 could kill the raptor in speed.
You bring up very good points and I credit you for that.
Know everybody keep their fantasys to themselfs.

Gabe,
The Scrambler doesn't do well with XC racing for the same reason it doesn't do well in MX racing. It has poor front suspension.
As for Hondas being overpriced. Compare a Rubicon to a Sportsman HO & then look at the price. The Rubicon almost seems like a ripoff.
Lastly, I would like to hear why a manual mulptiplies torque better than an auto? Where do you get your info that a manual is more effecient?
Sure a manual is easier to slip clutches & kick out in corners for ripping around etc. But that's not what I'm after. I'm just wondering if a manual gets more power to the ground efficiently why will a CVT out accelerate (all things being equal) a manual?

I rode a polaris once,it was like riding a catalac,it was pretty kewl but that fun because you coulnt throw it around like the 400ex I had at the time.I woulnt mind having both though but id rather have a Raptor and a Honda Rancher. Now that would be the life.Oh and a nice Yameee snowmobile would also be nice to have parked next to both of them.Wake me up now please
