RAPTOR vs. SCRAMBLER 400
#51
Come on Danyeo, you know our 400ex's are the perfect ride for PA. All the trails around me are fast, bumpy trails. But, I don't see how people can argue about who is faster. Do you people know how many more faster things there are out there? Go buy a Banshee, put a 500 kit or a turbo kit on it, and be happy. That is if you want to be fast. If you want really scary fast, put a motorcycle engine in it and run nitrous and turbos. That's fast. So, point is, there is always something faster, so be happy with what you have.

Hard to let a thread die when you keep spewing more BS. Adam and I only said that the 400L is a strong motor and a 375lb. auto Scrambler would probably be the fastest quad out there. Yes, we were talking about in a straight line and at no time were we trying to compare it overall. Now you sound like you are agreeing with us about the 400, but you're *****d because someone was trying to compare the Scrambler OVERALL to other quads. Please show me where that occurred, I must have missed it. Most of your replies consisted of trying to explain to us what a poor racer the Scrambler is and even in your last response you want to remind us again. Like I said, who cares, obviously most people don't or Scramblers wouldn't sell so good while the 250R is long out of production. In the real world all most of us care about is an occasional drag-race just for the fun of it.
As far as the Scrambler being less fun to ride, well you just don't ride in the right places. Maybe in Kansas or somewhere else flat it wouldn't be my first choice, but here where the terrain is rough, steep, muddy and rocky I wouldn't trade a Scrambler for anything out there.
We climb the kind of hills that if you don't make it up, you and the quad are screwed. I've seen a 400ex and Banshee ruined in the past few months. My buddy only saved his Raptor because my brother had previously climbed the hill he was trying and was close enough to help him turn it around when he couldn't make it. You can have your races, out here in the real world nothing beats a 4wd Scrambler to me.

Think about it Andrew.Do you ever see automatic race cars or Drag cars? There is a big advantage using a manual tranny but the one thing that is Very important. You have to no how to use the Clutch and shifting correctly or you will get beaten all the time. When racing I NEVER use the clutch between gears.Just power shift all the way up.Anyone else agree with me here????

You can get more speed out of a manual trans. vs. a stock clutch auto. On the accellaration part the auto gets a better power to ground transfer do to its dual torque censors.

I agree Dude, when I use to race dirt bikes in hare scrambles the only time I used the clutch was at the start and to stop. Other than that it was all POWER SHIFTING!!!!!!!!

I think the scrambler 4x4 is the best all around quad. It is fast, has fairly good suspension(not as good as the 400ex), can drive up the steepest of dunes, and go through deep mud holes, streams, over logs, rocks, and deep snow is a blast. I would rather not shift then shift any day, shifting is fine for 3 or 4 hours but after that in sucks and reverse is one of the small pleasures in life. The throtle is also far nicer to your thumb then the honda. The 400ex on the other hand is an excellent jumper an handles whoops with ease. But at slow speeds the 400 suspension sucks, and the motor always feels like you have to accelerate or slow down, It doesn't run smoothly at a steady speed, at slow speeds it is jerky. don't get me wrong I love my 400ex, but it takes a toll on your body and sucks in wet situations, has no ground clearance. I bought the 400 for mx and jumping. But I spend far more time riding my sc500. You don't need a trail for a scrambler it will make it's own. But the moral of the story is personal preference and rider ability will tell which machine is better. I am sure right now someone is typig in a replay saying I'm full of sh#t. But enjoy your raptors while they are on top, and hope they stay there. Looks like another DS to me.
