raptor 700 vs yfz450
#1
i have a 05 yfz450 and i want to trade it in on a 700 rap or a 06 yfz. My biggest question is what one is faster with an aftermarket pipe on it and by how much? Or will a raptor 700 with pipe be faster than my 05 yfz with a pipe and jets.

...dude, did you win the lotto?
NICE SIG!
anyway, this will probably end up being this huge contraversy like it always ends up being, but hte bottom line is, with just those mods, the yfz has the advantage, and "should" win. Thats not to mean that someone that knows how to ride there 700 cant beat the yfz.....but its not the expected!
Why are you trading in your yfz? If its because you want a more versitile machine, that can be used for everything, and while your doing everything you want to be comfy...have reverse.....have plush suspension, then maybe you should go with the 700. However, if your like me and want a scary fast power delivery, lite weight, race suspension, best handling quad there currently is.....then maybe you should stick with the yfz.
Yes, the 700 handles WAY better than the previous 660, and yes its faster then the previous 660, but if it all comes down to shear performance, then the yfz has the ticket by quite the margin IMO!
Good luck in your decision. We ahve both, and can tell you that you wont go wrong with either, just all depends on your riding style!

Dude, your not going to get a valid answer to this question, plain and simple. I suggest since you already have a piped 450 is to go out and make a few runs with a piped 700 and make your own conclusions.................and if you do please come on here and let 135 BOOM know the outcome............

Ok guys, obviously I have never encountered these 700's that you all talk about that beat up on yfz's. I have run into a couple, including mine......but never the ones you guys speak of.
I am tired of arguing, I would much rather here why you think that a piped 700 is as fast as a piped yfz. I would like to hear you side to it, cause I never do. All you do is attack me, and you never dispute what I say and prove. I would love to be corrected from the way I see it, without all the negativity. Look, I have both quads, I am not making up what I have experienced, or the numbers that are being produced. Here is how I see it.
The 700 or 686 is first off a trail quad, not meant to be fast, or to perform on the same level as a yfz. The 700 is has a mild power delivery, with its twin counter balancers, has single OHC, for more bottom end power but has a real lack of topend. The reve limiter is set at 9000rpm, with a compression ratio at 9.2.1 The quad features a 4 valve head, going away from the 5 valve head that yamaha is notorious for putting on there high performance machines both on 4 tires and two, street and dirt. It also features FI this year, which is a plus in some ways but negative in others, especially when you go to do ANY mod to the 4-wheeler. FI alone DOES NOT increase hp over a properly tuned carb, especially one like a keihin fcr found on the yfz! The quad also, lite for its class is still almost 400 lbs in weight. The chassy while really stable for its class, is still rather topheavy (high cg) then say a yfz. The suspension, while tuned rather well for trails, is anything but high performance as I can rally get mine to kick BAD in whoops, and you rally have to watch what kind of jumps your taking on. All In All, I am very pleased with my 700 for what it is. Its the best trail quad in my opinion.
The yfz450 is a race bred 4-stroke race quad. It features THE high performance 4-stroke "birth motor". This motor is tried and true in the dirt bike world, where the money and more focus is. The motor in the dirt bike is putting out 60-61 horse at the crank. The motor is a high revving, fast revving, 449 with a 5 valve head, DOHC, 10,750 rpm limiter, and 11.4.1 compression. The motor is a big bore as it has FAR more bore than stroke. The bore is only 7mm less than that of the monstorous 686, giving the 686 a HUGE stroke in comparison, and also giving you smooth, slower revving power. That motor is put into a very low lite weight frame that features fully adjustable race oriented suspension front and rear. the cg is incredibely LOW giving the yfz arguably the "best" handling of any quad out right now. The whole package, with elec start comes in at 350 lbs, which for any serious racer can be dropped quit considerably with the kickstart option as it gets you down to approx 335lbs.
WHen you go and pipe these two quads, you are loosing even MORE on the yfz in comparison to the 700's half way decent, smaller exhaust. YOu can realistically drop the weight of the stock exhaust from 10-12 lbs, to 4-5 lbs, giving you a dry weight now of less than 330lbs! BUT, for this argument, we are going to just keep the yfz stock weight, as well as the 700...just for argument sake. I just wanted to show how easy it is with just kickstart and pipe, to drop even more weight off of a machine that is the lightest in its class.
So you go throw a pipe on these beasts. I will guarantee victory on the yfz, as the 700 is going to be WAY out of tune do to the FI not adjusting. So we have to put a ecu and while your doing that an intake. On the yfz we'll do pipe, intake, cdi and proper jetting with the yz needle. The yfz with just a pipe will produce 47-48 horse (and jetting), with the intakes that are out for the yfz now, your looking at or around 48-50 horse. That usually what your looking at with the cammod as well, I forgot about that. But its not aftermarket, your just replacing to the stock timing of the yz.
The 700 with its pipe, intake, and ecu is making about the same at or around 48-50 horse. What I am going to argue, is HOW is a 686 that is really not a high performance engine, meaning it doesnt rev, has low compression, SOHC that weights in at 50 lbs more going to beat the race bred, quick revving, DOHC, high compression quad that weights in 50 lbs less? Please, answer me that....in a nice, not rude way?
Do yourself the favor and see what the power to weight ratio of these two are. Then you will also see that if you want a fair playing ground, meaning the same power to weight on both, then you will need several more horse power on the 700. Then your still left with a lesser power delivery.
I hope to hear back from some of you that are always in my face, as I have shown where I am coming from and I feel that what I have said makes total sence. Its based off of facts. Now I look forward to any of you to counter what I said, and make me look bad/wrong as you are all so good at doing.
I have explained myself........lets hear what you have to say, with out the normal bashing, name calling, or hurt feelings......like I am attacking your quad.
I have one too!!!!!!!!!!! If I where doing that, I would be insulting myself!
Thanks, and have a good one!

Im tired of coming to this site to listen to this guy ^^ ramble on with his #s and his experince, enough dude.
I have a piped 700, and I have a few buddies that have piped yfz, I have no problems beating them draggin in a slight uphill drag, using the same tires. I raced one of my buddys about 10 times and never lost, i pissed him off so much he went and got his yfz ported and polisd, and stroked it. Just wait a year when i go big bore and he starts losing again.

SEE THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. YOU CANT ARGUE THE NUMBERS!!! YOU CANT ARGUE THE SPECS. YAMAHA IS THE ONE SAYING THEM.
DONT COME TO THIS SITE THEN.......OR DONT LISTEN TO ME. UNTILL SOMEONE CAN ACTUALLY COUNTER ME ON THE NUMBERS AND SPECS, AND KEEP ON GETTING IN MY FACE, I AM GOING TO KEEP SAYING WHAT I AM SAYING!
YIPPPI, YOU CAN BEAT A YFZ....YOU EVER STOPPED TO THINK, MAYBE YOUR A BETTER RIDER, OR THAT THE TWO ARE CLOSE ENOUGH IN POWER THAT A 700 CAN SOMETIMES WIN. MY POINT IS ITS THE THE EXPECTED AND NOT THE NORM. I HAVE YET TO HAVE A 700 EVEN COME CLOSE TO BEATING ME! ATLEAST I HAVE EXPERIENCE AND NUMBERS AND SPECS TO PROVE WHAT I AM SAYING. WHAT DO YOU HAVE......"WELL, ME AND MY BUDDIES" "WELL, I BEAT A YFZ"......
I AM SURE KORI ELLIS COULD THROTTLE YOU GOOD ON A 400EX, DOESNT MEAN THE 400EX IS FASTER THAN OUR 700'S!!!!

HA HA HA HA. Dude, you just made yourself look so bad, cause you dont have anything to back what your saying! see ya out there, when your big bad 700 is going to really put a beating on me! GOOD LUCK!

Hey, Im just stating my experience, and the guy I beat, has alot more experience then I do, he even races flat track in the stock motor class. ( they allow pipes) I have seen dyno numbers too they are very similar.
Dude, I don't know what your problem is, but just because someone states their opinion or experince doesnt mean you need to tear into them, because you think different. If your ever in Norcal let me know, and i will race my piped 700 against a piped 450 and show that these things can hold there own.
