Default 87 Warrior Carb Problems...

My Warrior has got some issues. Last spring I got it out and put new fuel and the usual dewinterizing stuff, and it would start up and idle just fine....but when I hit the gas, it would pop and sputter. I tried riding it around the block, thinking I had to get the old fuel out. Still the same problem. I can get it going, but at about half throttle it spits, sputters, etc. I messed with it off and on all summer, cleaning out the carb multiple times, and rejetting a couple times. I thought I had it at one point, but in the end still the same problem. I've been told something else is wrong, but I'm still thinking its a carb problem. It has lots of compression when pulling the stater by hand ('87 has pull start also).
Its wierd that before I put it away for the winter, it was just fine...then after being stored for the winter, I have these problems.
I'm thinking about just picking up a newer carb and throw it in there. I understand the '87 carb was different that other years, is that true? Or should I try something else before replacing my carb?

Thanks for any help!!

Parking brake is gone, but I looked into the wiring that used to go to it. It was still connected, so I tried all different ways to disconnect it, and every way it still ran the same. Anyone know how I can make sure this is disconnected?

the sensor should be completely unplugged from the harness. I'm thinking it's something other than a carb problem if you've been messing with it this long and nothing changed, probably electrical. Look over the exposed wiring closely and try to find a wire with missing insulation that could be shorting out somewhere, unplug the CDI and make sure the connectors are clean, check all the connections for the spark plug and coil, etc.

R u sure it could be electrical recon? i mean, if it starts and goes in a forward motion, it seems like the electrical would be fine. my friends quad had the same problem as urs, except it would stall when u really hit the gas...it cost him a few pritty pennies to have it fixed, but hes not to smart so he doesnt really know what they did to fix the problem, but i'll see if maybe his parents know...since they payed the bill

It sounds a lot like what it does when the parking brake rev limiter is stuck. If he's been fooling around with the carb for a while and didn't get any changes from it, it's either an electrical problem, or maybe valve adjustment or timing.

Thanks for the tips, I'll take another look at the parking brake and see what happens. If that doesn't work, what kind of adjustment is there in the valves or timing?
Thanks again.
