Fair enough. At least we agree on fords and yamahas [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img] Well, all opinions and b$ aside. Yamaharider have you made any decisions about what you are going to buy? Let us know.

ok let me just say im not trying to start sh** i just want some help deciding on a vehicle. I love mustangs and trucks so thats not makein the decision aobut which i like, the mustang gest way better gas mileage than a truck if i get the v6 mustang, im not gettin it for a few months so i think most of it is going to come down to availiblity in my area and price, and i gotta remember to add in some money on the mustang cause i gotta get a trailer that is lightwieght and road approved. Thanks for the help and i will lett ya know wat happens

And what's the big deal with towing a trailer with a mustang? It gets the job done. It's not like it's a 2000 lb front wheel drive honda civic with a 1.6 or something, it has as much or more power than most small/midsize trucks. The biggest thing for me is that it seems foolish to buy a pickup or suv just so you look cooler while you tow a trailer a few times a year. You end up with a vehicle with less performance, more expensive maintainance, higher fueling costs, and it just doesn't have the 'cool factor' or fun of a performance car.
I've owned a GT and driven the v6 thats enough to say ford seen you guys getting off the short bus and made a sorry base model.

Well, some people have brains and take more into consideration than just power and speed when they are choosing a car for a daily driver. Why do you need a v8 for a daily driver? So you blow more money on gas, insurance, etc? What's so sorry about it? What's the 4.6 v8 have, like 270 hp or something? The 99-04 v6's have 225, that's only 45 horsepower difference. Having owned a gt, you should be able to realize that insuance for such a high risk vehicle is fairly expensive, as well as getting 18 mpg. V8's are great cars, i'm not saying that I don't like them, but there's more things to consider when buying a car than just how fast it is, especially when you're on a tight budget.

The dealer said it was 225. Even at 195 it's still more power than you ever need for a daily driver. My escort only has about 130 and it's still enough to have fun, and scare myself sometimes.

Lots of opinions about what you should buy and what the Mustang will/won't tow. I am probably older than most who have replied on this and offer this from experiance.

If you tow with a light weight vehicle such as the Mustang you are stressing the vehicle even though the manufacturer has rated it to tow. Simple fact is the Mustang is designed to haul passangers and give a comfortable ride. It is not designed to have a weight pushing it from behind while stopping and cornering. Consider the worse case situation. Going downhill on wet pavement in a gradual to increasing corner. Something, rock or deer, hops out in front of you. Will the Mustang be able to make the panic stop/manuver that is required? Maybe, but the odds are a lot better if you have a greater margin of safety in the towing/hauling capacity.

Consider a light truck with a "King Cab" or even "Crew Cab" design. Either would give you more towing capacity. I have an S-10 with the extended cab, allows hauling on person behind the seats on a jump seat, and can haul my (bad word on this forum) Kawi 360 Prairie in the bed. Usually I have the canopy on the pickup and tow a trailer for the quad and mower. The pickup handles it well and its just the 4 cylinder engine.

It's lots of fun to have the HP of the V8 engines and be able to romp around, I know because I grew up in the muscle car era, and still have these engines in a couple of 3/4 ton pickups. Big problem is the fuel costs today. For your needs a V6 with standard tranny would seem advisable. Be sure to follow the manufacturers advice about pulling in high gear. On my pickup they advise to not pull hard in 5th but to use lower gears when pulling hills. Going up most passes I can maintain 50 to 55 MPH and travel with traffic on moderate grades.
