06 700 Raptor vs 06 450R for handling
#1
Hopefully I will be looking at getting a new quad in a couple of months and have narrowed it down to these two and I am looking for some feedback as to how they compare in concerns to handling on the trails, mx track, and dirtpit type riding. Coming from stock 03 raptor that I bought new in Feb 03, liked the power but not the narrow stance and high CG. I know both the bikes I listed have had major re-works in motor and handling in 06 but I was wanting to get some feed back from some people who may have had saddle time on both quads.
I have posted the same question in the Honda forum so as to get their opinion also.
Thanks in advance.

The Raptor 700 is much improved in the handling area, but the tippy feel is still very slightly there. I feel much more comfortable taking turns at higher speeds on the 700 than I did with my 660. If would have to compare the two, I would definitly have to lean towards the 450R having better handling. In general the 450R has a much better handling design, with a very low center of gravity and better frame ergos. It's hard to design a quad with that much taller and bulkier 660 engine to compare in handling to these smaller 450's. I would have to say that the ride quality on the 700 is better and/or easier because of the softer more trail/sport oriented valving and springs on the shocks. You'll get jarred around alot more on the stiffer 450R setup.

As far as i know they are about even in speed from bottem to top end. The 450 is a much more practical race quad, due to its better race oriented chassis, suspension, lighter weight, and of course a quicker reving motor (in stock trim). But what the raptor has going for it is reverse, comparable handling (off the motocross track), more comfortable suspension and seat. More torque which adds for ease of riding, which means you don't have to shift as much, and alot more motor potential. To me the 700 is just more bang for the buck. I mean its a more trail friendly bike, and the suspension is not so hindering that you can't take it to the track as a matter of fact i think its pretty good. Well good luck in making your decision.
