Default Need more power out of Yamaha warrior

Sup people ... looking to get some more power out to the old 2003 warrior that i have had for a year now... this i was my first sprot quad. Now that i have gotten use to riding sport quads ( i have also ridden : Raptor 660, 05 400ex, predetor 500)i am really looking to get some more power out of my warrior... I know alot of you are going to say well just sale it and get a big quad... not going to happen getting married in Sept. so money is tight.. was think of going in to the engine its self ........maybe adding a dome top piston and cam ...... or may be a big bore kit? what do you think ....? Your input is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks
Andy

Depends on what you have if your still stock. Pipe, Air Filter, open air box and rejett will make a nice difference for not alot of cost also if looking for low end power drop front sprocket down a size. These have been my mods so far and has made it it alot better but still not going to win many races. I ride with a 400ex and and a predator both slightly modded while both still beat me in a drag race on the trails im on there bumper.

Pipe and intake would be the place to start. If those are already upgraded, then a big bore/high comp. piston and cams would make a good improvement. Upgrading suspension will usually help you go faster also, but if you ride a lot of wide open, throttle to the stops type stuff the motor mods may be more beneficial.

I don't like the idea of big bores/strokers on warriors because they are air cooled and could be overheated easily. Start out with the basic slip-on exhaust, clamp on air filter and removed airbox lid. Add a high compression piston, high lift cam and stiffer springs (not a hotcam), edelbrock carburetor, maybe get the head ported and you'll be set up pretty good. After that if you still want a little more kick the Dynatek ignitions give a good boost on modded motors.

I know you said you are going to keep the Warrior, BUT......... to do all the things that recon99 sugjested, its going to cost ya lots! I helped build a 446cc Warrior some time ago. All the good stuff. And dropped over 2 grand into it and still could not beat warmed up 400+ quads. (ya know, with pipes and jetted) Stock form or slightly modded they are one of the best trail quads ever built. If you really want to go faster, you really need to look at something else.
Just a thought, the N.A.D.A. average price is 3170. Add the 150 cam, 95 valve springs, 250 port job, 85 piston (not big bore) or 700 bigbore kit. Plus the odds and ends stuff like labor and machine shop stuff, and you could get a nice Z400 or ex or maybe even an older 450 for that.
Its just a thought. I went through about the same thing on my sons 300ex only to be dissapointed.
