Question about air filter in 2005 Kodiak 450
#1
I bought the K&N filter and swapped it for the one that came with the ATV. I noticed the one I pulled out was oily, but the brand new K&N wasn't. I realize that WHEN I CLEAN IT, I am supposed to use the solvent and oil (I bought the kit), but in the meantime I just place the new one in the same place as the stock one was without pre-oiling it or anything (i.e. AS IS)?
Thanks!
Thanks!

All K&N filters are pre-oiled at the factory before shipping. The cotton guaze the filter is made of is an off white in color when un-oiled. K&N adds a red dye to their filter oil to make it easy to see if you miss any spots when re-oiling the filter after cleaning. If the filter guaze was red in color when you installed it, you're good to go.

it wouldnt be a bad idea to give it a quick shot of oil on both sides before install. Yes the filter is pre-oiled, but you dont know how long the filter sat around before you ordered it. they will dry somewhat over time. If its dripping with oil, thats too much

Yeah, it seemed a reddish color to me. Thanks! I just took out the one I got with the ATV and threw it away, and put in the K&N.

Wish I would of known.. anyone else throwing out their STOCK Kodiak 450 air filter let me know....
I have been riding Dirt for years.. swore by K&N then went with a Oil foamed Twin Air.. just as much air flow and easier to clean...
