Never thought I would own one of those things either. Now I have a kodiak and I think its the best atv I have ever owned.
By the way I like the name of the city you are from.

I hear ya. Didn't think too much of them till I drove one. Now I doubt I woud go back to shifting.
I have heard people talk about the loss of control, but heck, I think I can actually hillclimb better with the auto. Downhill without the EBS (engine braking system) sometimes is a different matter, though.

Personally I like to shift, but yes the automatics can be fun, expessically in the mud.

When me and my buddy went to buy new quads, he wanted a Grizz because of the automatic tranny. I told him he was nuts, you can't even shift the dang thing. Two months later, I had two new automatics in the garage, you're always in the right gear.

When I bought my Grizzly, the one thing I really didn't like about it was that it was an auto. After a quick test drive I thought that I might be able to live with it. Now, a few months and several hundred miles later, I have to admit I'm beginning to actually like it. Most of the time anyway. When it comes to pure sport riding, which I like to do from time to time, a manual is better. In the acceleration and top speed area I think a manual is better. A manual is better in the mud in one area, its water tight! But an auto is better for traction! When you have to shift a manual you stand a very good chance of breaking traction and spinning out, both in mud and on hill climbs. So, all in all, I have come to like my auto, but still miss the advantages of a manual from time to time. However, those times are getting fewer and farther in between.

I love my Grizzly's drive system due to it's simplicity, just like my snowmobile! A belt, a clutch, and other than that I haven't been in there yet on the Grizzly but it sure sounds like the same setup. However, I would REALLY like to know what kind of acceleration we would have with a manual trainy on that 600cc beast....
