Default Kodiac 450 help

I have a 2005 Kodiac 450 and this last weekend I was whipping some donuts and all of the sudden it became real doggy. Then I couldn't seem to get any top end out of the wheeler. It sounded as though it was flooded. It would go away slightly but never 100%. It seemed to only happen after turning several donuts or putting the engine under a little load, then no top end or power. It seemed doggy and only topped out at about 38 to 40 MPH. Today I got on it after I washed it, just to see if the power and top end would return..... and I got nothing. Is this a spark plug problem? Is this a water in the machine problem? Maybe a bad or old gas problem. Sometimes the wheeler will sit for a month or two before I use it. It idles fine, starts fine and sounds smooth until right after some donuts or at top end. Even after that, it will still idle fine. This is a very clean new machine that has not been abused. I has about 20 hours on it of pretty normal trail riding, some mud, some water. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Default Kodiac 450 help

It almost sounds like the REV limiter is kicking in. Mine did this and I found out an electrical plug-in had come unhooked. It is located on the left side, between the inside of the wheel and the gear housing or pumpkin. Check to make sure it's pluged in real good. Let us know what it turns out to be.

It's up front inside the wheel the front wheel well. Look inside and you"ll see some wires wraped in black tape or plastic. Once you find the wire just follow it till you come to a little plug in. Make sure it pluged in. A stick grabed mine and unpluged it. It's not hidden or hard to see, it just everything down there is painted black. Good luck.

Thanks for the help. I just wonder if that is what it is. When I rev it sitting still, I don't hear any hesitation. It's kind of intermittent. It does tend to sit for up to a month at a time. Could it be old gas? Should I swap the plug just to see if that does anything? When the wheeler was new, the 4X4 wouldn't engage and they had to replace something to get it to work. I can't remember what it was called. Not sure if this has anything to to do with it or not. It seems to do it whether it's in 4X4 or just 2 wheel drive.

I'd start with draining the carb. There's a drain screw on the bottom of the bowl. Unscrew it and whats in the bowl will come out. You will get water from condenstion in the tank from sitting without the tank being full. Stat with the draining the carb. I'll bet you got water in it.

May want to drain the carb like stated in the last post....maybe even drain the fuel tank empty...try fresh fuel......The engine should be problem free.
