I'm glad I live on a long dirt road where there's only like 1 or 2 cars that come down it overnight. There's about 4 miles of dirt roads around my property/house that I could cruise late at night and no cop would ever know. But still one time during the day I saw a cop pull over two raptors in front of my house...how unlucky b/c a cop comes down my road once every year maybe.

Dont you need turn signals too?
In Arizona if you only ride in the day light hours you need a horn, a mirror and a working brake light. You only need turn signals if you ride at night. Until last year all you had to do was tell the DMV that you were compliant now they make sure you have a horn and a mirror.
Once you have the registration you can actually remove the 2 dollar squeeze horn that you took off your little sisters bike and you mirror and ride. If you do get stopped you get a repair notice which means nothing, and is not even worth the time the officers spend to write on up.

Most small communities in the Western US allow ATV travel on everything but the major highway through town. Along the Paiute trail in Utah they even advertise this fact. My 8 year old daughter is 100% legal as long as she obeys the traffic laws and does not exceed a reduced speed limit. I ride my quad through my neighborhood all the time and so do many of my neighbors. There is a Police officer that lives 4 houses down. I think he is probably more concerned with criminals than quads. If you run around here going mach 2 on a piped banshee I'll bet you would still get pulled over.

Instead of reading some of this ridiculous nonsense PAY ATTENTION. Your quad was more than likely impounded. Answer these questions and I can probably help you out, unless you already got the bike back:
1) Did you receive any tickets? If so, what were the violations?

2) When you went to get the quad back, why did they tell you "no"?

In order for the police to keep the quad, it usually has to be seized for a) utilized while committing a crime (NOT A TRAFFIC TICKET like speeding, lights, etc) b) you bought the quad with funds that were not legal (drug money, stolen money, etc.) You may be able to get it back by providing a registration and proof of insurance. Concerned about the insurance $$$? Get insurance for a few days and cancel it. The insurance company will mail you a refund.

You have to check and see with the police if they impounded your quad for a local/town ordinance violation too, since these local laws differ from town to town.

ONE LAST QUESTION (and this is a biggy...be honest): Have you ever had encounters with the police before? For what? Did you run?

RoadDog has some very good points.

I also know in NY, you don't need turn signals - if you lack turn signals, your supposed to use hand signals.

He admitted to running from the police on the quad before I believe, I could be wrong, but there was talk about that earlier in the thread.

i personally have never ran from the police. when i ever rode my quad on the street i never saw a cop. the only time a cop has ever seen me on my quad is when im in my driveway.

well some cop at the precinct called my house he said that my bill of sale needs to be notoriced and it has to say that the guy i bought the quad from informed me that i cant ride it on the street. so all i have to do is get a new bill of sale signed and i can have my quad back on monday with a couple hundred dollars in fines.

when i get the quad back and there are things broken are they responsible?
