Default Wolverine electric start problem

My electric start suddenly stopped working. I can use the pullstart, and it will fire up after a pull or two.

When I hit the start button, the oil light comes on and I just get a "click" noise. Not a clicking nose, just a single click that comes from the rear of the quad...not the electric start motor. This quad is an upgrade from my 1985 200X ATC(kickstart) so electric start is all new to me...LOL!

I've made sure it's in neutral, I've pulled in both brakes and double checked everything (fuse is good and the lights work, so I assume the battery has a good charge.) I did get it to fire once via the electric start after I notced this problem, but that was it.

Has anyone had this problem on a Wolverine? I just want to know what to look at first.

check to make sure both wires are tight on the battery. I had the exact same problem with my bruin and all it was was that the postive wire was a little loose.

If it is not a loose connection on the battery, it may be the battery itself. I had this same thing on my Wolverine, lights would work, but starter solenoid would just click. I jumped the bike from my truck and it started, a new battery fixed the problem.

Definitely try what Lotus suggested. An auto/truck is a 12V system just like the quads. The Amps doesn't matter, the quad will only draw what it needs anyway.

If you still have the same symptoms, post your findings and I will reply with a detailed troubleshooting path when I get a chance.

Thanks guys! Hopefully, it's something simple like you all mentioned. I'll check the connections and try jumping it. Fingercrossed!

I narrowed it down to the brushes or the communicator...or a combo of both. I wasn't able to get the starter to work by connecting the positive lead directly to the starter wire. I then tapped the starter with the handle end of a screw driver...it started. So, looks like I'll be pulling the starter soon. Should be "fun", since the previous owner cross threaded one of the mounting bolts.....

If you end up deciding it needs replaced, check Ebay. I see them on there all the time.

If not using Ebay yet...I have had really good luck. It took me awhile to give it a shot, but I have been really pleased at the deals I have gotten. Just make sure you check the Sellers Feedback. I like the 99% + Sellers.

Thanks! Hopefully, it won't come to that. But it's always good to have a "plan b". I ordered the brushes and plate yesterday from http://www.jackssmallengines.com/ The brush plates comes with the brushes installed for $22. I thought it was a good price.

After looking over the manual, the starter seems pretty easy to remove. Just take off the two mounting bolts and pull it out. Is that all there is to it?

That is all there is to it. I rebuilt my starter adn it was very easy. I also had to replace my battery because of the same symptoms you described.
