Raptor 660 vs. 700
Is there really a huge difference between the 660 and the 700 Raptors? Both have very simialar specs (SOHC, liquid cooled, etc.) and the 660 even has 5 valves compared to the 700's 4 valve head. The only differences I can see between them is the 700 has a 2mm larger piston (same stroke), the 700 is 2 lbs. lighter ( 398 vs. 396), and the obvious being the 700 has feul injection. Am I missing something here? Could feul injection make that much of a difference? OR are all these rumors of the 700 waxing the 660 false? All info appreciated

You have touched bases on some of the differences, but not all of them.
Dont forget the YFZ front arms, spindles and hubs. The 700 has an eccentric chain adjustment, and I believe more rear travel. The center of gravity is better along with better geometry.
You have to realize the EFI is a major step up from the dual carb setup. Yeah the 660 had 5 valves, but the carbs had to be jetted different cuz 1 carb fed one intake valve, and the other fed 2 valves.
Was I of any help at all?

If you are just asking is the 700 alot faster id say no. I beleive it will out run a 660 (stock for stock) but I dont beleive it will wax one. They are both fast quads and the best gains for the 700 is in its geometry. They also changed the gearing and with the new geometry the front end stays down easier.

well I'll tell ya this much. I had the 660, got rid of it for a yfz got rid of the yfz for the 700. I feel I have made an increase in speed on all three moves.
to me the 700 is leaps and bounds over the 660. Maybe not in the power department but overall. You stated that "The 700's lower center of gravity may help a little bit."..........alot more than a little bit. The thing feels like a bigger yfz and that is saying alot.
Its true that the 700 lost a valve.....I dont know if that a good or bad thing. The good thing about loosing one is it gained even more low-mid power......the bad is it lost some topend power. Its true that a properly tuned carb is as every bit as good performance wise as FI.....but who actually had those crappy carbs dialed in correctly, or better yet, better than the FI on the 700.
I can tell you this much.....you are pretty much guaranteed that a 700 will beat a 660 in a straight line machine to machine. Its going to take a lesser rider on the 700 and a good rider on the 660 to beat it. Stock there is a HP difference of approx 5-6 hp. You also wont wheelie uncontollably on the 700 like you will on a 660.
the 660 was a good quad, but the 700 in every way shape and form out does it and in some areas out does it by a long shot!
I am thinking maybe this isnt the answer you wanted.......but I spoke the truth and went off of what I have experienced owning both.
The differences power wise are: Its 686cc's, Fuel injected 44mm TB, needle bearing rocker arms, twin counter balancers, an aluminum forged piston, all aluminum sleeveless cylinder, high-flow “oval” silencer.

I have to agree with Boom on this one. Stock, I think you can almost say that the 700 waxes the 660. After the usual mods, I think they are a lot closer but ONLY if the get the jetting right on the 660.........and I only say this because "my" 05 ran extremely well.........

I Have not had any Probs with them yet...In 300 Foot that is....
....ummm I hope not....as you have a 686 kit in yours with a higher comp piston and most likely a port and polished head.....and maybe more! A 700's 686cc's are a lot different to the 660's 686 kit cc's. The 700 has no compression.
