Is your quad running good. If it is then that slack is probably ok. There needs to be a little clearance between the needle and the needle jet so fuel can flow past it. Also the needle is tapered does it have alot of clearance when the needle is all the way down. If you think it needs replaced just buy a new needle. They do get wear from going up and down. Or you can buy a carb rebuild kit which will have all replacement parts for the carb.

ok thanks, i got that figured out now, but i still cant get the quad running right, i have jets 147.5-170 i have diresctions from the guy i got the jets from, but they arent helping, i have a k&n filter and a FMF slipon, i have that needle on the very top clip seeting, and i dotn even know where to start on the air screw, i have the 155 jet in right now, it idles good, then from bout 1/4 throttle to all the way open it sputters and shoots black smoke out the pipe, what should i do?

What is the condition off that 2000 motor. You really shouldn't have black smoke. If it idles and decent throttle response off idle don't worry about the air screw. From 1/4 throttle to full is the needle and main jet. Anyways it sound rich. So run it at full throttle for awhile then pull clutch in and shut off engine. Then check the condition of the plug. Do this for half and 1/4 throttle.

155 is to high.. i would suggest a 150... 1 richer on needle... and maybe a 1/2 turn on the a/f screw

k thanks iill try that tomorrow, just a while ago i had the main at 152.5 and the needle at the 4th clip from the bottom, and the pilot screw was bout 2 turns out, it was really good on idle, and full throttle, in between it was jumpy and not right, so i put the needle at the 3rd clip from the bottom, and no better, i think that maybe i should go to a 150 main like u sed, and maybe the 4th clip on the needle, thanks for you comments and plz keep um comin

if you go UP on the needle it leans it out...

so you need to go down one on the needle to richen it..
