Default 350 wolverine help

Hey guys I have a 99 wolverine 350 idles well, but when I accelerate it starts to miss and loose power. I have removed carb and cleaned, but still having same prob. I changed out the plug with a new ngk, still have the same issue. I also flushed the tank and filled with new gas. (bike has been sitting for a while) All of these things seem to help, but still missing at mid-high rmp range. Does this bike have some sort of fuel filter that i am not seeing that could be dirty? Would valves out of adjustment cause this issue? Motor seems to run smoothly at idle, just cuts in and out at about 3/4 throttle. It is really bad in 4th gear. Any insite will be appreciated. Thanks in advance for the help.

Did you check the diaphram in the carb? I've heard if that gets damaged, it can cause the same issues you described.

Not only the diaphram itself but also the small vacumn passages leading to it may not be working. The best way to test the entire circuit is to remove the carb, drain all the fuel from it (fire hazard), and then put a shop vac on the engine side of the carb. You should see the slide rise or else you have a problem somewhere.

Thanks for the help so far. I took the carb back off and checked the diaphragm, it seems to be fine. I also drained the carb and did the vac test that wolverine68 suggested. The slide does not move up and down when hooking the engine side of the carb to a shop vac, it will move easily by hand, but not from the vac pressure. I have an old carb off of a Big Bear that looks the same, tried the same test on it, and it doesn't slide either. Do I have to plug any holes for this test to work? I guess it is possible that both carbs are bad, but the Big Bear ran fine when carb was removed. Just want to make sure i am doing the right thing. Thanks again for the help, you all are the best.

Samich,

I will try to come by there tonight and see if we can figure something out on the wolv. I did find a new carb for sale at a couple of places....not exactly cheap.

ok, samich and i have pretty much figured out that the problem is in the carb, most likely the diaphragm. It looks fine though, no rips or holes, and seems to seal well. Anyone out there with aftermarket carb that wants rid of their old oem carb?

You guys should be able to order just the diaphram, there shouldn't be a need to replace the entire carb.

We got the wolv running. Ended up being a dirty carb. We thought we had it clean, but i guess not. There was some buildup near the needle seat that was causing the issue. Wish we would have known that before spending hours changing out parts. Oh well, some lessons you learn the hard way. At least now we have gained the knowledge of the inter-workings of a wolverine fuel system. Thanks to everyone for their help.

Good to hear you fixed it. I also just fixed the same issue with my wolverine! I cleaned the carb one time, wasn't enough. I spent hours trying to figure out what it was and it turns out my carb needed to be cleaned again!
