Default BACK AXEL HELP

My brother has a 2002 Raptor 660r.
The back axel will not tighten... i can take both sides and wiggle it forward and backward...

It appears the 2 big Bolts that go from side to side arent tightening the system...

Anyway... we are in the process of taking it apart... but which way do you turn the BIG Axel nut thats on the right side of the disk brake.

We have taken the two allen screws out .. but cant get the big nut off..

Help

Thanks

Default BACK AXEL HELP

I just did this last week, I had to replace my axle. If you are standing to the right side of the machine, looking at the disk brake, its lefty loosey. Just like your castle nut on the hub. Use a pipe wrench, they are a pain to get off. I squirted a bit of WD-40 in there to make it a bit easier, and it worked. I dont see why the two nuts would be loosening up though. There shouldnt be much pressure against them if your axle nuts are tight.

Default BACK AXEL HELP

Ok you said, if your standing to the right of it, its lefty loosy,
well i am standing right behind the quad, with the wrench on the nut, if it was lefty loosy, then I need to PULL the Wrench UPwards toward the exhaust????
THe dealer told me i need to push it downward towards the ground.....
I have tried WD40... nothing worked... my bud said try to use a torch to heat the nut up a bit, to expand it... that may work

As for the axel bearings, yeah that will get checked into as soon as i get the axel nut off..

im not sure if u know this but there are two set screws that u have to loosen on the axle nut...... make sure that u loosen both cuz i didnt know there were two and only loosened one.....and i ended up stripping the threads.... after that all it took was some WD-40 and some muscle.

If you're lookin at the right rear tire from the side of the quad, then its lefty loosey. Maybe the heat will help. Just try not to mess up the bearing seals in the carrier.

Before you try heat, try a longer wrench, or put a pipe onto the handle of the wrench you are already using. Using leverage is better in this case than heat, as you can damage the bearing seals and possibly even weaken the axle. I also think you are probably going to have to replace the bearings and seals anyway if you have play like that, but that is all the more reason not to damage the axle or anything else further. Probably a good time to purchase a shop manual too

Great advice... I used a pretty damn big pipe wrench for mine.
