well I think the 3 and for satnd for the visocity of the fluid ( how thick it is) and the brake setup works bet on that specific thickness. So I am sure you could use it, but It woud probably be best to use what is recomended.

You can use anything that meets your rating or higher (in your case you can use DOT 3, 4, or 5). My warrior also says DOT 3 on the master cylinders, I bled it out with heavy duty DOT 4 and it gave it a much nicer, more direct feel, not so squishy and soft.

Recon99 is right. You can use anything that meets or is rated higher than what is says. If it says dot 3 , then you can use dot 3, 4, or 5.

Wrong.

Dont ever mix dot 5 with either dot3 or 4. They dont mix, because dot5 is silcone based, and dot3,4 are Polyalkylene Glycol Ether based.

Dot5.1 isnt silicone based, and could be mixed, but is much more expensive than 3 or 4, so there would be no point.

But dont use dot 5 in an older system made for dot3 or 4.
Heres a good on line article about brakes and fluids.
BRAKES
To answer the original question..yes interchange 3 with 4, the only difference is the boiling point, so you can use dot 4 in a dot 3 system, but dont use dot3 in a dot 4 system.
