Need Help Picking A Tire...
#1
Hey everyone, I ride an 05 YFZ450, I do pretty much all tight trail riding, with good amounts of mud, and once in a while I ride in sandpits, the time has come for me to replace my stock tires and I am having trouble picking a tire... I'm looking for a tire that will be good through mud but still sporty, ive narrowed down to the ITP Holeshot GNCC or the Maxxis RAZR 2, what would you guys reccomend? Thanks for the help.

either one of those 2. i have holeshot xcr-03's on my kfx and love them. 6 ply.. great tire , good for everything . not to great in real loose sand but not mad, they clean out pretty good. im sure the gncc tires are pretty good. heard razr's are a good tire to. you cant go wrong so find a good deal if its a money thing.

I don't think either of those are going to be that great in the mud. Knobbies just aren't designed for mud.
I think you'd be better off with something like the Kenda Bear Claw. They're not quite as sporty as the ones you mentioned, but still they're pretty light and sporty for a mud tire, and will handle the mud much nicer than a knobby.
I have Swamplites on my warrior for the same kind of riding you describe, and they work great, but they aren't a very sporty tire so you probably wouldn't like them. They're heavy and they refuse to slide predictably.

The Holeshot GNCC was speciffically designed for GNCC racing and some of the races I have seen have been pretty dang muddy. I have no personnal experience with these but all the reviews I have read from the racers that use them were positive. I even considered them for my raptor but I have decided to go with the Razr 2's or the Holeshot HD's only because I can get them so much cheaper than the GNCC's. I don't think you could go wrong with them though.

Depends on what your definition of mud is. If what you refer to as mud is just riding on trails that get wet and slippery, with a few inches of mud or water, those sporty tires will probably get the job done. If you are more like me, and it doesn't qualify as mud until the hole is almost 2 feet deep, you're not going to do very well with anything except a more serious mud tire.

my friend with the razr 2 runs them on his 450r and 250r and he races gncc. when we were just out dickin around we found some swamp type ****, the sucktion that trys to pull ur boot off when u step in it. it swallowed my raptor right up, but he was in it with his 450 throwin that crap everywhere. its a hell of a tire. the tread is close to an inch deep

My vote would be for the Holeshots because they are alot lighter than the Razrs.I'm not a big fan of the old Holeshots, but the new GNCCs seem to be a big improvement. My buddy has a YFZ450 with the New GNCCs and he loves them.

Thanks for all the help guys, i really appreciate it, if i can get the money together i think im gonna go with the RAZR gncc tire, 80% of the riding i do, has just light mud and water and anything will make it through but occasoinally i find the swampy mudhole where im gonna need a tire that can hold its own in the mud... thanks again.
