Default 700 Grizzly Electric Starting

Grizzly will start 1st or 2nd try, if temps "over night" don't dip down into the teens.
You are right I really don't want to ride in 5 degrees but where the problems lies is during the day temps do rise to 20 - 30 degrees, but Grizzly still takes 8 or 10 times to start.

CB, Have you changed your oil to a 5W-30. I use a 5W-50? Also I think Yamaha should change your Battery. I know this sounds strange but The battery could be part of problem. I think at his point I would take off all the plastic and check every connection. Even OHM out each wire that you even think may be part of the starting process. In my line of work when a problem gets this bad I leave nothing to chance. I have started my Grizzly at 10'F now and starts in 4 or 5 seconds on the first try and I don't touch the gas. I have not checked to see if the fuel pump is on if the kill switch is OFF and key is on. I need to test this or look on the electrical print. I start with the kill switch on and turn key on. Display goes normal and fuel pump is up to pressure. Or at least I don't hear it anymore. Hey I wounder if your sensor for fuel pressure could be part of the problem? Maybe fuel pressure thinks it is up and in fact it is low. Also could pressure be bleeding down back to the tank and not giving you the fuel you need to start? Even if the fuel pump is up to pressure does it come back on at he correct pressure drop? Get on your dealers "But" and make them run these test and anymore you want. I would stay with them. Or you run all the test yourself. Also contact Yamaha customer relations about how unhappy you are. I bet they read all this anyway. PLEASE keep us posted on your progress. It's getting colder here this week so I will try my Grizzly again then. Good luck. PS. You could take it to another Dealer. It is under warranty. Yamaha customer relations should be able to tell you of a dealer that has a tech who has been to Yamaha school. Yamaha should be able to make an appointment and tell another Dealer to look at your Grizzly. I would always get a COPY of the work order even if it is under warrany. This gives you proof of a repair. I bet by law they have to give you a copy. Does your state have a LEMON LAW. Tell Yamaha you will use this law on them and you will contact your local TV stations for help. Put some pressure on Yamaha. Most of these Dealers really don't have a a tech who has been to school. I love my Grizzly But if you have a LEMON then use the Law to get another one.

Hey! not to hinder your help, but you have not tried starting your quad under 10 degrees right...???MANY people state the problems start in the single digits NOT 10 and above......my 2 cents

I am still having problems with the grizzly 700. First the dealership told me that it was running too rich. So they leaned it out to about -6 but that didn't work. Then they said it has breaken in enough yet even though it had 25 hours and 125 miles on it. To me that is already breaken in. But tried it and put more miles and hours on it. It now has 350 miles and 58 hours and the dam thing still wont even start when it is 30 degrees outside. So i did look up on the lemon law, and you know what happened they laughed and said that the lemon law doesn't work on atvs because some bs excuse saying that my family doesnt depend on the bike or something. i think this is bs and a rip off. All of us buyers are here paying on a 9000 dollar bike and you can't even start it in the cold even when they are advertising instaneously cold starts. I think we all need to get a hold yamaha and either have them fix or give us a refund.

I have a (not sure what year model and don't know how to tell) Grizzly 660, and I'm not a wimpy guy, but he's right, You gotta be one hell of a monster to pull start this thing. I can pull the rope out with all my strength, and it will only lope the engine one single poof, and thats after 3 HARD pulls. Forget it, to be honest I don't know why they even BOTHERED putting the pull on an engine this size.. or a 450 either.

I haven't tried pulling a 450, only my 660... I was quoting what the other guy said about pulling his 450 and how he said it was impossible.

LoL... I imagine I could pull it since I can pull my nephew's 400, but the Grizzly 660 is impossible.... I've tried, and it is very hard to even pull the rope completely out of the engine.

I agree....any quad over 450cc or maybe 500cc max would prolly cause some injury when pull starting
