If so, how do you know when you are using the reserve?
This may be a stupid question, but I've ridden to where the tank is on the last bar and would hate to run out when I'm far away from my vehicle.

It doesn't have a reserve in the sense of where you have to manually intervene to enable access to an emergency supply of fuel. What you get instead is a blinking fuel level indication on the LCD panel. When it starts blinking, pretend that you've just flipped your lever for reserve. As for how far it will go, I do not know. Perhaps a good test would be to carry a fuel container with you and then drive until it stops just to see how far it will go (I may do that in August on my Utah ride!)...

thanks, that's what I needed to know. I am going to run it empty one day while riding harsher terrain to see how far I can get on the reserve.

Anyone ever run a fuel injected ATV out of gas before? Just wondering, because the only fuel injected machine I have ever run out of fuel is a diesel GM pickup truck, and that was a major pain in the butt to get restarted. I actually had to read the instructions to start the truck , LOL.

I'm not sure if this is true of all diesel engines... On the older diesel motors I have seen, since it must have timed injections, the only fuel pump is driven by the timing belt itself. So the only way to prime a dry system is to crank it until it primes. I'm pretty sure they have to use a timed pump on newer diesels, but I don't know if newer designs have a in-tank pump that helps prime the injector pump. With gas EFI motors the fuel pump primes the the whole system as soon as the key is on. then has a return line to the tank. If you run the 700 out of gas, just refil the tank and leave the key on for a few seconds before trying to start it.

I emptied my reserve fuel today. It took 19.2 miles from the time the fuel light was blinking until the motor stopped. That was driving in snow, switching between high and low gear, and going fast & slow. Guess what, I put 2 more gallons of gas in and it started right up with no problems.

Did you notice what your total mileage was on the tank when you finally ran out?...

Mine takes roughly 4.3 gal to fill after guage begins blinking. So that leaves about 1.0 gal in reserve. I get anywhere from 10 to 20 mpg depending on type of riding.

no I didn't, because I reset both my trip meters when the fuel gauge started blinking. The first one was set when it was switching between the 1/4 mark and the blinking gas gauge. The second tripometer I reset when it stayed on the blinking gas gauge. I got 19.2 miles from when the bliking gauge was constant. Thats through snow, through obsticals, heavy throttle use mixed with normal throttle use, low gear and high gear, up and down steap hills.
