Default CVT vs. Gears - Weight Issue

Which is heavier overall? The only example I can think of in actual production would be Vinson Auto vs. Vinson Manual.
I don't know if the Vinson manual trans. is dual range or not, but I imagine a dual range manual trans. is heavier than a single range.

No dual range Manual trans on the market today in an atv, I think the last was the old King quad.

Essentially all of the belt driven cvt trans on the market are dual range.

Might want to inform Suzuki of this.
The 5 speed Vinson is dual range.

Smart-***, a simple "you are wrong" would have sufficed.

Rode one in 2004 and almost bought it, I didn't remember this:

Five-speed transmission with automatic clutch and 2-speed sub-transmission - plus automotive-style single lever operation for forward, reverse and park

Just the foot shift 5 speed. Has this been dual range since 03 or was it added sometime along the life of the model? It would appear that I simply failed to notice it when test riding or I completely forgot about it.

Either way I offer my apologies for the error.

All well and good, but what I was getting at was, which weighs more? CVT or Gears? I'm just wondering what type of transmission, in 2 otherwise identical quads, would end up giving you the lighter machine.
I looked up the weights of the 2 Vinson models on Suzuki's web site, and they are listed as the same, but I think that must be wrong.

I wasnt really trying to be a smartass....Just pulling your leg a little.
I apologize if you took it that way.
As far as how many years they have been dual range I dont know.

I believe the 400cc and 500cc Arctic Cats also are available in 5 speed manual and auto and both with high and low range. The motors are supplied by Suzuki.

The Suzuki Eiger 400 is also available in manual and it has Hi-Lo Range subtrans also. I think Suzuki never stopped putting a dual range in them even when they had the Quad Runner 500? or Quadmaster 500? I don't know for sure, but all Eiger machines have dual range and it was introduced in '02 so I know they came back then.

As for weight. From what I can tell, cvt vs manual....they are virtually identical.

I'll tell you that the new Big Bear is geared like a tractor though. I was impressed with that. Its first gear is equal to my Low 1st.... I expected it to be in-between my H1 and L1, but it isn't.
