727 Stroker?
#1
WEll, against my better judgment, I bought an 01 Raptor 660 from a guy a few weeks ago. It had several things done to it, but the one thing that is getting me is that he said it is a 727 stroker. Some of the other things he said it had were a stage 3 hotcam, 13-1 compression, and the heads were ported and stuff. He didn't know a whole lot about the specifics of it, because he said a friend who races did all the work. I have heard of the 719 stoker, or just the big bore 727, but never really a 727 stroker. Since I have bought it, it has just been a money pit. A few of things that hapened are: starter solenoid, main gear on the crank got a tooth broken off by a peice of metal ( looked like the head of a bolt), and now I think the one way is going out of it, which may explain the bolt head that was found inside the engine. I am beggining to wonder if I have made a poor investment . Anyone know anything about the stoker?

Sorry to hear this. . . Does the bike have a new tranny? If not, you may have a genuine money pit. . .
I really hate to say this but, you may want to cut your losses and sell this one. I think for the 2001-2005 you are better off not touching the engine. . . If you buy used, there is a better chance it is abused if it has work done to it. . . You just have to do too much to these bikes to make them work and run reliable. . . do you have stock carbs? You'll fight those until the day you sell it. . .
Good luck.

Dang. . . this guy was a salesman. . . people were backing out of buying it because they were scared of the power. . . Yep, that happens all the time!
Dealer checked out the tranny and it looked good - how exactly did the dealer do that? X-ray vision?
Things aren't adding up on this. . .
I hope I'm wrong but, a 2001 Raptor is a ticking time-bomb. . . the added power of a big-bore / stroke whatever is or isn't in there isn't going to help. . .
Only rode it on the pavement? Hard surface riding is harder on a bike's tranny - the grip of the tires won't give so, the tranny takes all the abuse. . .
hmmmm

Good luck with the bike Bro.
I think you got it at a good price. . . Just understand you may have some repair bills coming so, try to set some money aside for it. If it doesn't end up needing the repairs, you got a few bucks to help you out on the next purchase.
Enjoy the ride!
