Default 727 Stroker?

WEll, against my better judgment, I bought an 01 Raptor 660 from a guy a few weeks ago. It had several things done to it, but the one thing that is getting me is that he said it is a 727 stroker. Some of the other things he said it had were a stage 3 hotcam, 13-1 compression, and the heads were ported and stuff. He didn't know a whole lot about the specifics of it, because he said a friend who races did all the work. I have heard of the 719 stoker, or just the big bore 727, but never really a 727 stroker. Since I have bought it, it has just been a money pit. A few of things that hapened are: starter solenoid, main gear on the crank got a tooth broken off by a peice of metal ( looked like the head of a bolt), and now I think the one way is going out of it, which may explain the bolt head that was found inside the engine. I am beggining to wonder if I have made a poor investment . Anyone know anything about the stoker?

Sorry to hear this. . . Does the bike have a new tranny? If not, you may have a genuine money pit. . .

I really hate to say this but, you may want to cut your losses and sell this one. I think for the 2001-2005 you are better off not touching the engine. . . If you buy used, there is a better chance it is abused if it has work done to it. . . You just have to do too much to these bikes to make them work and run reliable. . . do you have stock carbs? You'll fight those until the day you sell it. . .

Good luck.

Stock tranny. He said it was checked out at a dealer and it was said to be ok. The bike is in excellent condition, and hasn't been ridden too much, and when it was, he said it was mostly pavement. It has stock carbs as far as I know. I wouldn't really care to sell it, but I don't figure I will ever get near as much as I got into it. I have put an extra 1000 into it on top of the 2800 I paid for it ( HMF pipe, Razr II fronts, PRM rear grab bar, N style gripper seat cover, etc.) I took it on its first ride the other day, and it is a blast to drive, but on the hills, it scared me a little. As soon as I started going up any kind of steep or tight and twisty hill it wanted to wheelie on me real bad. I am afraid to sell it, since I will prolly lose a ton, but I am afraid to keep it also. The thing that gets me is if it really has a 727 stroker or not. I will probably have a hard time selling it as well. The guy I bought it off of had a pretty hard time selling it. Everyone that was intered in it and rode it was too scared to buy it after taking it for a spin.

Dang. . . this guy was a salesman. . . people were backing out of buying it because they were scared of the power. . . Yep, that happens all the time!

Dealer checked out the tranny and it looked good - how exactly did the dealer do that? X-ray vision?

Things aren't adding up on this. . .

I hope I'm wrong but, a 2001 Raptor is a ticking time-bomb. . . the added power of a big-bore / stroke whatever is or isn't in there isn't going to help. . .

Only rode it on the pavement? Hard surface riding is harder on a bike's tranny - the grip of the tires won't give so, the tranny takes all the abuse. . .

hmmmm

Man, I think I may have gotten jipped. I guess I am going to have to keep it though. I really wouldn't feel right selling it to someone else. I guess I will have to take my chances and hope it doesn't crap out on me anytime soon. I had a bad feeling about buying a 4 wheeler that has had motor work and stuff done to it. Hopefully my fears will not be realized, and I will get lucky with this one

Good luck with the bike Bro.

I think you got it at a good price. . . Just understand you may have some repair bills coming so, try to set some money aside for it. If it doesn't end up needing the repairs, you got a few bucks to help you out on the next purchase.

Enjoy the ride!
