does any1 know how to change just the outside cv joint on a 07 grizzly 700??? i ripped the boot and the cv screwed up. the inside cv joint and boot are in excellent shape so i don't want to wreck that if i don't have to. wrecked cv joint is closest to the wheel on the right rear. i already have everything ripped apart to where i can see the cv joint alone.

 

The outer CV can be a nightmare. Sometimes they do not want to come apart even with a slide-hammer. I had to put the axle in a vice and wack it with a big chissel and a sledge hammer to get one apart. Good Luck...
Different than the inside CV the 'C' clip is on the axle inside the CV joint. That is what will give you a hard time. Sometimes you can just tap the CV and the 'C' clip will compress and the joint will come right off, other times it takes 3 men, 2 boys and a dog to get the darn thing apart.

 

ya actually once i got the new cv joint the other 1 actually had to be cut off. the c-clip inside that was supposed to compress was actually welded between the 2 metals. the shop tried to tell me that you had to also buy the axle, but that is only on the grizzly's 06 and older. you can replace just the cv joint on the 07's it still was 350$[canadian] compared to the inside cv joint that no 1 will ever wreck which was only 150$$. go figure. but your quite right, either you cut it off or start beating the hell out of it till it comes off.

I personally am not a fan of the design that has the Clip on the inside of the Inner CV joint. But it is what it is... I am in the process of using C.A.D. (Cardboard assisted design - no I can't claim that one.. ) to improve upon my Yamaha Aluminum A-Arm Skid plates. Personally Yamaha should have spent another $20 in material and provided Protection for the CV boots, Yes I said Protection as the current A-Arm skids offer NONE.. haha... and to think I almost bought the rear a-arm skids.. heck with that... Nothing a piece of 1/4" 5052 can't fix!

 

If you have to go the route of a 'half-shaft' then Pat's Small Engine carries Wild Boar for about $150
