1999 kodiak possible carb problem?
#1
This problem just occured today. I tried to start the atv and it would not start. It finally started but it spit and sputtered and kept stalling. This all happened with the choke open. When it finally does idle when you press the throttle it backfires and stalls. After a while it will go with the choke closed but seems to lose power going up hills. When you open the choke again and hit the throttle it wants to stall and backfire. I took the sparkplug out and it was black. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi I have a 2001 Kodiak 400 I had the same thing happen the other day. Same thing exactly. I found that the choke, when in the off position really was still closed some. WD40 did the job. needed to open the right side plastic to do this correctly.

Hi Just a little side note concerning the chokes on a Kodiak 400. The design of the choke, gas feed cables allows the cables to be streached because of the way the cable are araanged around the steering handlebars. If they are tie-wraped too tight or in the wrong configeration, when the steering is moved to the far movement right, or left, this can speed-up the motor, or open/close the choke. So be sure these cables are free to move some.

Yeah, I had the carb off to flip over to take the bowl off to clean. I never unhooked the throttle or the choke. Plenty of slack in those cables.
You can actually unscrew the choke fastener from the carburetor and the cable still is connected and runs somewhere inside the carb.
Something is sticking with that choke the cable works and it's connected to the carb.
If someone can help me something is sticking or broke and I need some help. Sounds like the choke has remained open while the cable and lever move back and forth.
Can someone help me unstick this choke? I never use it I must have turned it on once and where I never use it it just stayed on.
Thanks.
