brakes gone after 280miles?
i bought a 450 grizzly in march, and last week i started hearing a screeching. i decided to take a look yesterday and theres no pads left, its metal on metal. so i figure somethings got to be wrong, cause brakes dont go after 280 miles and i took it back to the dealer. he basically told me i have to learn to clean my quad and clean it more often. he also said that i might want to take the tires off and wash inside them after i go through mud. so i figured since the tires are off, may as well let them put some new pads on. they did and gave it to me, said they dont seem to be catching very well but over time they might get better and you could take some 120 grit sandpaper and sand the rotors down a little. is this a bunch of BS or is it me. today, they will hardly stop me, i cant even get em to skid like they should. and it is true i wont hide it, i do ride mud but all trials have mud that will get into the discs. just because i ride every day should i have to take my tires off and give it a thurough cleaning every time. let me know what you guys think i would love some opinions

I have a 350 bruin (the new 350 grizz is the same. and I assume you have the same calipers since the pads are the same)
I recently did the brakes on mine and same thing...metal on metal... I also ride through a lot of mud and don't wash my quad nearly as much as your 'supposed' to. The guy that helped me do my front and rear brakes (rear are drum, think yours are too) told me that it was my fault for lack of maintenance (wtf?), said I should of checked them before they got that bad. Out of the 4 pads on the front, I only found 2 backer plates..thats how bad they were.. Sounds to me either the caliper or pads are bad for mud. I bought some EBC pads and I'll let you know how long they last. (don't have a hour/odo meter)
Good luck.

There's several types of pads... You should look at getting the more expensive ones that last much longer... Just remember that the rear brake has to be the main stopping force for the entire back. (I think they should just pony up and put dual rear disc brakes, just like the 660/700.)
Are your fronts worn out as well? I typically use the front brakes for 95% of my stopping needs. (a much more controlled braking) Because they share the load, they wear slower...

well, i hardly use my back brakes, and the front ones are what wore out, cause i too, use them for about 95% of the stopping. also i cant really find any place that sells stuff for an 07 grizzly 450, i know from 05-07 are the same though. i dont know what they call the kodiak though, yfmz 450 or something?
