Hey,

I started my raptor today and it will only stay idling with the choke on a little bit.
-If i take it off the quad backfires then stalls,(the boots came off the first time)
I cant give it much of any throttle
-Sputters and backfires then stalls.

Heard it could be due to the parking brake, or a lean condition.

Please help me out here, I've been having issues with my carbs since i got this quad.

thanks alot,
Brian

It is due to the parking brake or some models have a rev sensor on the clutch lever. It's more than likely one of these.

I tried to start my quad today and the engine won't even seem to turn over. The starter motor seems to be spinning great. Can the parking brake even prevent the engine from starting up?

My friends dad gave me some starting fluid to spray into the air intake.

I sprayed it in while cranking the engine and it would start for only about a few seconds. This would rule out an electrical problem right?

Can I conclude that the carburetor needs to be taken apart again?

The carburetor needs to be taken apart again?

Maybe. Have you taken them apart befor? If you did, what kind of carb cleaner did you use? If I may suggest a great carb cleaner. It is chem-dip carburetor and parts cleaner. You can by it at autozone for about $20. This works better than any spray. Do not put any rubber gaskets or plastic in the solution, if you do you will have to replace it. You need to take the main jet out and the idel jet along with the bowl and carb body in the chem dip. Let soak for 24 hours if its clogged up.

I hope this helps.

yea thanks darkone you have been helpful.

this will be my first time taking the carbs apart. The past 2 times i took it to this place to get done. I'm just sick of blowing the money for the carbs to be routinely done.

I mean I only got them cleaned out 3 months ago.

Once I do find the issue within in the carbs (need to get the time to take them apart), what do you suggest I do to prevent this type of issue from reoccurring?

Thanks man

New Update

As I was taking off the plastics, gas tank etc. to prep for the carb removal, I figured I would check the valve clearances.

Valves were extremely tight, I adjusted them.

I also finally got a good look and figured I'd see if i could move the carbs around.
Seemed like the boots were Completely off.

Do you think this could be the sole cause of my problem.

My conclusion was this
-valves got way too tight and caused the carbs to backfire and blow the boots off
-Since the boots weren't on, the engine wasn't gettin the right mixture.
