eddie van halen... that is hilarious. I too will soon be tearing apart my carb for rejetting and a new adjust on the fly air/fuel screw. I talked the guy I ordered my exhaust from into sending me both 170 and 175 jet and a a/f screw with exhaust, the stock is meant to be tamper proof. Most will do this for no extra cost (send the jets etc). It has been a while since I have worked on a carburetor, about 8 years. I mostly worked on lawn mowers and old cars, an some old 2 cycles. these new carbs look more intense. Do you usually remove from engine or try to work around all the wires and frame. it looks accessible sorta?

I am able to do mine on the bike, but it would be easier to do it with it off the bike. My old 80cc when I rejet it I do it after I pull the carb off because its very easy to pull off. but the wolvy is a little more intese so I just work around the wires and frame.

eddie van halen... that is hilarious. I too will be rejetting, it has been a while since i worked on a carb, about 8 years, and have not worked on one like this, mostly lawnmowers and a few old cadillacs. is there a need to remove carb from engine or can mods be done with it in place. nicaDd, When I ordered my exhaust the guy said he would throw in 170 and 175 mains and a replacement miture screw that can be adjusted on the fly.

update to my last post, nicaDd. sorry if i mislead you, but since you have an 07 your needle will not have the different clip slots as shown in the video. there is only one slot, yamaha doesn't want you to adjust it, although in their gytr jet kit they have an adjustable needle. Therefore it is my new opinion that a jet kit would be worth it if you are going to be making any more mods. I just finished jetting for new pipe, only changed main jet, however pilot needs changing it is pretty lean. not sure what stock is but I have ordered two, 45 and 48. got MJets with pipe 170, 175, 180. and he threw in an air/ fuel screw that is adjustable. a jet kit that has a 45 and 48 pilot, 165, 170, 175, and maybe some in betweens like 172, along with new adjustable needle (6 slots), and easy adjustable air/ fuel screw would be worth $50 - $70 bucks. It probable won't hurt to have all the extra jets. this will allow you to play with jetting to get it just right. I put the 170 in and it seems perfect. air fuel screw is two turns out. I am having trouble finding a new needle that is sold separate from a kit, but I am sure it is out there. fyi my elavation is about 500 ft. removing carb entirely made it easy to tap out cover that blocks factor fuel/air screw. had to unclip throttle position sensor wires though they were zip tied to frame and had NO slack. Next time I will only have to rotate carb for jets and needle hopefully.

not sure if you can see three other posts I have tried to make. for some reason quick reply isn't working. Anyway, I just finished installing new pipe and jetting, I am now of the opinion that a jet kit would be worth buying. the pipe came with mainjet and fuel/airscrew, but in 07 and 08 bikes the needle is not adjustable so that is needed to tune a bit more, though not mandatory. I also need a new pilot, it runs fine, but is pretty lean in idle. I wouldn't let it sit idle for longer than 10-15 minutes. also I am having trouble finding an adjustable needle that isn't part of a kit. anyway if you can get a kit with air/ fuel screw, adjustable needle 45 and 48 pilots, 165, 168, 170, 172, 175 178, 180 mains, I would get it. I put 170 in and it runs great. that will also give you extra jets in case you make more mods or need smaller mains and pilot in winter. I removed carb totally, was a pain in the ***, but it made it easy to tap out the block that covers the factory air/ fuel screw. just use a hammer and phillips screwdriver, doesn't take much and didn't damage anything.

The NCVQ Needle that I went with is the stock needle in the YZ450F Dirt Bike (same motor). You should be able to ask for one from a Yamaha dealer. The rest of the GYT-R jet kit is basically useless once you go with the pipe (except for the pilot jet). All the main jet values are too lean.

Giesdog, the Jet chart pic I posted earlier has the GYTR part number for the adjustable needle. As a matter of fact, i just came back from the Yama dealer to pick it up. Was about $13. Had to order it though since it's not a stocked item.

I also just bought the main jet and pilot that the chart recommended. 172 main and 48 pilot. This was also confirmed with emailing tech support for Dr. D exhaust. Since the main company is about 30 mins. away from me, I am pretty confident that thier jetting reccomendations is pretty accerate as to where i will ride. They tested it in pretty much all the places where I plan to ride anyways.

Also got my Modquad intake kit. Pretty straight forward to install. Just waiting for my exhaust to get here. Hopefully by friday.

um stupid question but where is #1 clip on the needle? from the blunt end starting down or the pointy end starting down??

Not a stupid question. Count from the blunt end down. You want to count from the end that has all the possible clip positions.
