Shipping a Quad ?
#1
Seeing ERICsRAPTOR's post about going to Cali, it got me thinking. I know at first glance this sounds crazy, but has anyone ever investigated shipping their quad long distance? You see, I live in Georgia and dream of riding my Raptor at Glamis. (And would NEVER be able to talk the missus to driving to CA!). I wonder if there is some way to put a quad on a pallet, box it up and ship it by truck as some kind of freight. Is anyone on this site in the shipping/trucking business that has any ideas? It couldn't cost more than $300-$400 roundtrip, could it? And I bet ATV rental for several days would cost that. Plus, I'd rather have my raptor than some ten year old, beat to **** rental!!

Back in 97' I shipped my banshee to cali a month prior to flying out.... the question is... Who and where do you ship it too and how do you get it to and from where your riding??
At the time Lisa (Allen Knowle's sister) was working at CT racing.... I shipped my bike to Redondo bch and she drove an hour to get it.. un crate it and hauled it to Glamis for me... My wife and I flew into LA met up w/ lisa at CT and set up the whole arangements. We spent 2 weekends in glamis and the wife had a blast too..... on another quad from Lisa.
Shipping was supposed to cost me 1200.00 round trip, but I traded w/ a friend and painted his suburban for him in trade. Come to find out now there are a few places that will ship round trip for approx 400-600.00. The bike has to be crated up.. NO fuel, Oil, or antefreeze. And it must be securely held down in the crate(tie straps work well).
If I had the chance to do it again....... I would do it in a heartbeat!!! Well I think I ranted on enuf...
Good luck

One of the other things to do would be to ship it by rail. I think a box is in the $2000 mark but if it is just inside the US and can be shipped without priority then you may be able to get a better deal.
The key here would be that you can ship ALOT in one of those things. Like 5-10 quads. And other gear. You would definately need to have a person who would 'receive' it for you or you pay storage. I have had friends who ship their stuff like that to other countries, so it should be cheaper domestically.

I TOTALLY recommend a company by the name of Forward Air. www.forwardair.com I shipped a 560lb quad, shipped in a crate used by Honda to ship their quads in, from Sacramento, CA. to Minnesota. It only cost me $144.00 way cheap! I bought my son a 50 Eton from a guy in Dallas, TX. Only $60.00 and both only took 3 days to ship! This has got to be the cheapest shipping company around. Just call their 800# and tell them where you're from and how much you want to ship and they'll tell you!!! Hope this helps!

my friends and i go to glamis from cleveland once a year for ten days. we commision a semi and a driver every year. (the driver rides too). it costs 200 dollars a guy and you ship your quad and all your gear and camp supplies (coolers grills tents whatever you want to take)get on a plane. fly to yuma. rent a blazer. meet the truck at the glamis store and unload it in the dunes. whole trip costs less then 1000.00 for 10 days. we are going again in march. traveling with no luggage is pretty cool.
