help/suggestions needed for 98 warrior

Default help/suggestions needed for 98 warrior

I would like some advice on the following issues:

I am always replacing the rear axle bearings and they are a pain because they become all rusted etc.
I am getting ready to reassemble it right now and was thinking of putting a zerk fitting in the housing and pumping it full of grease to keep the water out. What do you think about this?


When I start the quad and the starter is engaged, the is a loud metallic smacking sound (like someone is hitting the motor with a hammer.) It has done this for quite some time and continues even though I have replaced the starter. It only does it when the starter is engaged (it is almost like one smack for each revolution of the starter), occasionally I will get one smack when the engine is turned off. Other than that it runs great. I was wondering if it has some kind of sprag clutch to engage the starter could be the cause?

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

i have the same thing with my starter on my warrior. i replaced the starter thinking that would fix it and that didn't work. i still have the problem but it comes and goes. every other or more attempts to start it will make that loud banging noise. i'm not really sure what is causing it to do that. i figured i have the same problem and maybe i can get an answer to try and fix it as well (if fixable).

There should already be a zirk fitting on the axel housing, and if not drill and tap and put one in there. but you shouldn't have to be replacing the rear bearings that often.

Nope, no zerk, I am going put one in. There were none on the swing arm and shifter and I added those.

Make sure you don't blow the seals out by putting to much pressure on the bearing seals. If the bearings are sealed I would put a zerk down low and then put a small wheep hole on top with a breather hose and run it up so you don't get water in it.

The factory bearing carrier is junk. The factory bearings are sealed so putting in a grease fitting is going to be limited help. The problem is getting water by the OUTSIDE seals to the bearings. I have always ran a dual row billett carrier on my Warriors. This eliminates axle bearing issues. The tapered bearing carriers are actually better than than the dual row, but the dual row held up fine for me. Thay are a little pricey ($180) but will pay for themselves.

The starter clunk is natural on the 350. I think it is the one-way starter clutch going bad. Mine made that sound for the 2 years that I had it and it never gave out.
